ISWC'03 Gadget Show Videos
An anonymous reader writes "A few days ago (Oct21-23) the 7th International Symposium on Wearable Computers (ISWC'03) took place in White Plains (N.Y., U.S.A.). Aside from the cool evening reception/visit @ IBM TJ Watson Research Center Hawthorne, one of the most popular events was (as usual) the gadget show where we saw some interesting gadgets as well as a few funny demonstrations. Some short video clips (DivX 5.05) are available (please be gentle on my ADSL connection!)."
just so you know.
I want 2D games back.
uh... you're new here aren't you?
Sounds like a problem waiting to happen.
Maybe somebody would like to mirror.

Read the fine link? It's a torrent! A mirror unto itself! It's one of the better ways to prevent Mr. Slashdot Effect from smashing the poor ADSL connection.
I had but a simple dream, to destroy all humans.
he means leave bittorrent running after the file is done downloadinng so his connection isn't left carrying the weight alone. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't download it.
You can't judge a book by the way it wears its hair.
unless he is running the tracker off of his DSL

Mirror of the .torrent file here.
Ut oh. Brown screen of death?
Good Idea, making the download a .torrent instead of the full file, but the slashdot effect still takes its toll on another poor, helpless server.
When life gives you crap, Make Crapade.
Sluggy Freelance.
Often people have problems connecting to the tracker because of a firewall. Then again, often if you just wait 5-10 minutes it will start downloading despite the error message which would make you think otherwise.
Good luck.

Just use an overclocked AMD in your parka. Canadians and Russians might buy it!
OH THE SHAME I fell off the wagon and use sigs again!
Although it is on the homepage, not everyone will think to click on the link meant for the press.
Nonetheless, it has some nice clean big pictures so take a look. Nice stuff.

Come on guys, you call this slashdotting?!
(please be gentle on my ADSL connection!)
Saying that on Slashdot is like entering prison wearing a woman's dress and a long blonde wig and saying 'please be gentle on my asshole'.
Karma: Excellent Birds (mostly as a result of listening to Laurie Anderson)

Get him!
HERE's a normal http mirror for those too lazy to get bittorrent.
Be nice.
Why read the article when I can just make up a snap judgement?
Here.
Not the torrent, but the movies from the torrent.
Official client (Doesn't work on Panther!)
A decent Mac-only client
Azureus, a Java client.
You can also grab the standard distribution and run btdownloadheadless.py in Terminal.

I think the coolest wearable computer has to be the one in 117_1750.AVI. Its a computer belt with usb and bluetooth and some decent flash ram. Now if I can only get one with WiFi and a heads up display for running NetStumbler ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H Kismet (almost forgot where I was). For those Site Surveys ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H War Chalkings.
Mines got Bluetooth! Eat your heart out Bat Man!

After watching those Great Clips of geekcon or whatever it was I have come to the realisation that I am far from true geekdom. It seems that 52 hour coding binges or countless hours tweaking hardware for 0.2% performance increases will never come close to the true geeks depicted in those clips. I am a shame to slashdot.
:)
PS: I've already loaned out over 300 Megs upstream on the torrent. 68.22.145.171, 68.38.165.1, 142.59.181.210, and 203.219.51.26, you owe me next time.

WTF?
I wonder if any of the videos feature the Orgasmatron.
SMACK!! Who's your daddy?!?!
SMACK!! Who's your daddy?!?!
SMACK!! Who's your daddy?!?!
Just a question here: Why don't browsers implement the Torrent protocol? I was thinking about this the other day and it surprises me no one has done it yet. When saving a file in Mozilla, the dialog box showing the download progress could double as a torrent client. When the download is finished, the dialog box will stay open and host the torrent until you close it(unless of course the leecher has the 'Close this window when finished' checkbox clicked).
The proliferation of BitTorrent would happen much quicker if it came with Netscape or Mozilla by default. Questions? Comments? Discussion?
You can't legislate goodness. Let each to his own destiny, by will of his freely made choices.
It looks like how people are downloading the videos is more fun to talk about than the videos themselves!
The thing in the box has no place in the language-game at all; not even as a something; for the box might even be empty.
Maybe he has a real slow connection and doesn't want it getting overwhelmed. I often cap mine at around 5k as I'll run multiple torrents at once. If I'm running only on i'll up the cap but often I have another program running that needs the bandwidth more, plus I prefer my upstream not to get so bogged down that the my IM, Chat, and Browser become useless.
