Chris McArthur writes "The MTA Team proudly announces the release of an updated version of Multi Theft Auto: Vice City, the PC extension of GTA: Vice City which adds extensive multiplayer functionality. MTA:VC 0.2.2 fixes numerous bugs and adds a Stunt Game Mode, a custom-created multiplayer mode in which you can duel against other players to accomplish the best stunts."

Considering that it(the GTA series) is finally coming to the xbox on nov. 4th, perhaps they should look into enabling multiplayer in the game. I don't really see gta as a multiplayer game, however, I'm sure it'd be fun to defend yourself from someone else trying to steal your car.

What about the Old 2D GTA games. The multiplayer was cool in those. I wasted plenty of time with those games. I loved the Tanks and the mines, car guns .... just about everything. I am sure there is great potential for multi play in the new GTA's if we look hard enough.

I'm a big fan of Coop. While the game is tons of fun multiplayer style, I really wish I could join up with a couple friends and follow the plot of the main game together. Would be loads of fun.

It is on games.slashdot.org, if you don't want to read about game related stuff, don't read the games section...It's not on the main page, it's on the page where people would like to read about game-related news. Slashdot.org reports updates to specific software, games.slashdot.org is reporting updates to specific games...how is this a bad thing?

Actually, I have yet to see any reports on the main page of Slashdot.org that go so far as to list a version number for any program/software.

Show me a news report that was previously on the main page that had a line similar to that. Like I said before, GTA multiplayer online is nice IMO, but its nothing groundbreaking since its just a smaller server version of a MMO game. As for looking on the games.slashdot.org for updates on specific games, I don't see any reports about the new map hacks in Warcraft 3 appearing or the new update that was released for C&C:Generals Zero Hour either.

There are two examples from the last two days. Both of those appear on the "main page" if you choose not to disable them - just like stories from the games section. It's certainly nothing to complain about. If you want to remove games from your "main page," it's a simple matter to go here, select "Preferences" and then select "Homepage" to make such changes.

FWIW, I only had to go back a day to find a mainpage story that had some software released with a version on it and specific updates - the Linux kernel, as it happens.

I thought this update was worth posting because it added the stunt mode, which is an entirely custom-designed mode for GTA and sounds pretty darn cool. Of course, we don't post every single version update for every single game mod - just the ones that are kinda cool. But, as the saying goes, and just so I can start and finish this post with acronyms, YMMV.
