Grand Theft Auto - The Scarface Connection

Tony Montana writes "If the words, "Say hello to my little friend!" mean anything to you, you'll want to check out an article at Game Chronicles detailing the similarities between the Grand Theft Auto Double Pack and Brian De Palma's Scarface." The comparison may be obvious, but the article adds some finely observed details of the homage: "[Tommy] Vercetti's office closely resembles [Tony] Montana's (video monitors and all), while the downstairs room has the same palm tree mural that decorates Frank Lopez's private office."

to me Vice City is a lot like watching Miami Vice

(reurns airing every day overhere -Antwerp, Belgium)

when you reach a certain wanted level, you even get one cop car chasing you containing two vice cops that just happen to 'look' like crocket & tubbs

      gotta love that game :D

Because now the people who didn't own it on the PS2 or PC, and own an Xbox, can see it.

It's not like these things weren't plastered all over the Internet when Vice City was first released, though. But, remember "n0w i7'5 0n Xb0X!!!! P52 5uXX0rZ!!!!" will be heard througout the halls of gamedom as the diehard Xbox fanbois flock to the game they all said was a pice of shit when it was on the PS2.

I have GTAIII and VC for my PS2. I have an Xbox, but see no reason to re-buy the games for it just for the improved graphics and custom tracks... it isn't like they added tons of missions to do, or the mod ability of the PC versions, or anything like that to really make it worthwile to those of us who already played through the games a year and two years ago.

Honestly, most of the people who wanted to play these games, already have. Remember, MGS2: Substance didn't see healthy sales on the Xbox, either, with it being released a year after MGS2: SoL. Expect more of the same from this.

It's just a nicely put-together article summarizing some of the neater details in the comparison. Considering they use the Scarface soundtrack in the game, I think everyone is well aware that there's a homage already - this writes it all up in a worthwhile way and points out some extra cool things, though. Honestly. :P

Totally offtopic but can't stop myself from doing this: I'm from Antwerp too!!

On-topic: I like Starsky and Hutch better than Miami Vice, but there's another little easter egg in Vice City, but I couldn't find anything about it on google so perhaps it's just my imagination: In Vice City there's a cab company that you can buy and it's called Kaufman Cabs. There's an 80's TV show starring Danny DeVito called "Taxi", that has a character called Latka (he's a foreigner and speaks funny). The actor that plays Latka is Andy Kaufman. Perhaps the guys from Rockstar like the TV-show? It airs every week-night, around 00.30 on VT4 in Belgium.

it's not as much an easter egg, as it is the rockstar guys really liking their classics.

Yes it is a reference to the Taxi television series. Even the cabs look the same to the ones in the series. Notice that the rival cabcompany in vice city has different cabs.

The car dealership you buy from the footballpro is called 'sunshine autos' ... the name of the company in 'Taxi' was 'Sunshine Cabs'

to go completely off topic... Taxi the movie rules :P
