Unreal University Impressions

Demondo writes "Well the first annual Unreal University weekend is over, and based on the numerous pictures, videos, and impressions people are giving it seems that Epic Games, 3DBuZZ / Mastering Unreal, and the sponsors (Center for Digital Entertainment and nvidia) have pulled it off quite successfully. I just hope that I can go next year."

    Hey Demendo, I've reviewed your posting history and determined the following: YOU ARE A COMMIE!!!

    I am fully aware that Slashdot is the home of a population that is certainly liberal in their socio-economic views. With that being said, you take the motherfucking cake and shit it out in a pattern that spells out "I AM A FUCKING COMMIE PIG!!!" You certainly are a commie! You are my natural enemy and, as such, I must request that you be modded down as quickly as possible. Certainly there are reasonable moderators among us who can see that communists running wild in my forums is a very bad thing. Moderators? Please, do your duty and make this asshat silent! And to those of you who are not moderators, take heart - you can help the true American cause. All you have to do is get out there and vote against Howard Dean - he will destroy Democracy and Capitalism is we allow him to. You may also wish to boycott an Open Source Software - any software product that gives away the source code gives it away to anyone who wants it. This includes terrorists. Do not be surprised if you see the Saudi government releasing a version of Linux and using the profits (money that would have otherwise gone to Microsoft - an AMERICAN company) to fund terrorists who want to fly badly in my country! I will continue my fight for your rights not to be bothered by liberals! God Bless America!!!

      You spelled Demondo wrong there ace. I really can't argue your opinion though as I am new to slashdot. But, suppose that the Saudi government released a copy of Linux. It would have to be utterly amazing for people to buy it as much of Linux is free. So, I don't think you have to worry about that. As for voting against Dean, his goal is to try to get the "poor, Confederate flag on the front of their truck" Southerner to vote for the Democrats. FUCK YOU DEAN!!! I'm from the South and I'm a well educated college student working towards a degree in Aerospace Engineering. I'm not some poor, racist man who doesn't know what's best for him. The Confederate flag represents HISTORY for many people. If the American people can not move past that, then we need to reevaluate our current situation.

      Why attend Unreal U 2004? Because any real university experience (tuition, class sizes) will leave you reeling and thinking "how unreal" anyway . . . crying in your brew at the U.

    I attended the Unreal University event, and I would just like to say some things about how the event went. First and foremost, Bravo to Epic and Atari for even planning something like this. I can't think of any way that is better for drumming up support for both the Unreal Engine, and the MOD community. It's involvment like this that will hopefully keep Epic games fresh. The people who were "working" the event were quite approachable, and seemed geniunely interested in your thoughts and opinions. Again, Bravo. Also, they had a LAN party where we got to play Unreal Tournament 2004, and I must say the game is very well done. With additions of new game types, new weapon types, and Awesome vehicles, this is definitely not a resting on your laurels type of release. Just wanted to put that out there, and hope that anyone who got to go had as great a time and impression of Epic/Atari as I did!

      So what the hell did you learn at this "university"? Did you actually learn to MOD or just beta UT2004?

      From my understanding the university was divided in two. There was a giant, ongoing, LAN party, for anyone wishing to play UT2004. But there were also classes covering everything from static meshes, to general level desing, to introduction to particles. For people who wished to learn about Unreal modding. The training was provided by the same people who make the free video training at www.3dbuzz.com / www.masteringunreal.com so people who couldn't attend the university, still have access to over 24 hours of Unreal modding training. And over 200 hours of video training free.

      Since I myself am already a MODer for UT2003, I skipped out on most of the classes that they offered. But there were people who worked for Epic that taught classes in things like: UnrealScript UED (Map Making) How to make Mutators (mini MODs) Creating custom weapons Static Mesh creation creating and importing characters for UT2003 ETC... there were many classes offered.

      "MOD" isn't an acronym. Mod, modder, mini mod, small mod. Whoever started this trend needs to be beaten with some rods of sugar cane.
