Star Wreck Trailer

ultramarweeni writes "'Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning', a very fascinating feature-length Finnish Star Trek satire is now nearing its completion. Today, December 13th, the trailer was published at 0:00 GMT after 14 hours of technical problems. Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning tells the story of the crew of P-Fleet starship C.P.P. Kickstart, which was stranded on Earth after an accident after a battle against the Korg. With the help of the technology to come, their leader, Captain Pirk claims himself as the emperor of the Earth. He conquers the world and rebuilds the P-Fleet. Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning has been in the making since 1999 and will probably be completed in spring 2004. Or maybe not. Time will tell."

That's what it reminded me of, anyway.

An underrated, extremely stupid internet classic.

I think they rendered all that themselves actually - given that there are plenty of scenes with Babylon 5 ships and Star Trek ships together - so either they are stupendously good at splicing stuff together frame by frame (highly unlikely) or they did all the CG themselves. In which case, good on them - 'cause those are pretty nice effects considering the general look of the budget. Of course, that won't stop Paramount suing their ass into next week...

You would think so. Indeed, parody is part of the Star Trek Culture.

But that hasn't stopped Paramount from suing people anyway. There was one local production company that had to fold their production of "Star Wreck" because they couldn't afford the legal fees.

It's the corporate way to heavy-hand people into what they want done regardless of constitutional rights. Paramount is one such company.

If I ever I had the resources, I'd like to put on my own production of "Star Wreck" with the intention of letting Paramount take me to court so I could prove a point. But it would be like taking a heap of money and making a bonfire. At least with the bonfire you could warm your hands though.

Despite all the blah blah blah, Star Trek sucks BS that floats around the internet, you still can't take away from the fact that Gene Roddenbery's creation has been one of the biggest impacts to Science Fiction and that it's wildly popular. Satire is one thing, but I hope this project isn't some pathetic rip off of Star Trek that just makes lame shots at some of the stereotypical Star Trek elements. Spaceballs was a great movie, because though it was based off of Star Wars, it had an identity of its own, and all the satire was done in passing rather than being the primary focal point. I hope this is how this project works, rather than just being 90 minutes of "Look, the holoroom is malfunctioning, that's funny because that happens a lot in Star Trek. Uh oh, Counciler Ithica said something obvious, that's funny too".

Why do folks need to /. cool sites with big movies? All it does is cost them huge bucks that /. folks don't pay, and drive them offline.

Check out the recent victim -

Over this holliday weekend a very popular website called Slashdot.org put up an article about my site and provided a direct link (without my consent so I could prepare for it) to my CGI ATIS virtual ride-thru project. While this was very flattering it also turned out to be very expensive for me. On a single day on (Saturday November 30th) I received 11,000 users that downloaded 33840.220 MB worth of stuff from the site. Due to the high bandwidth used, the Atommobiles.com site was shut down and I was left with a huge $1000.00 bill to pay. I am still working out details about bandwidth issues and I am switching to a more expensive account to get the site back online. So for now, all movies will be removed from the site and the site is in danger of being taken down until these issues get resolved. I will try to keep this site online as long as I can but without the help of some donations this site might become extinct just like Adventure Thru Inner Space. A sad day for me and fans it will be, indeed.

    Barely holding on.....

Anyone interested in donating some money to the site I have a paypal link set up.
Just click the Donate button below. (Note paypal auto adds a $3.00 shipping charge to any donations so just subtract $3.00 from your donation amount that you want to send. Sorry about that. I have Paypal set up to charge $3.00 shipping to any orders and it can't be removed for the Donations.)

Thank you everyone for all your support.

Here is the link to the "little" article that killed my site if you care to read it.:

You know, the Slashdot editors need to think about this. If these guys see a story linking to a page with a 100 MB file, email the site owner first. How about Slashdot offers to mirror his page? Why doesn't Slashdot do this? Heck, think of the cool Perl code and hardware you'd get to configure when you try to find an automated way to mirror his site. Or better yet, download the file and place it on a Slashdot server with a bit-torrent link. Gee, I've spent all of 2 minutes thinking about this, and I've come of with a couple of solutions.

      Seriously, this really sucks.
