Star Wreck Trailer

ultramarweeni writes "'Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning', a very fascinating feature-length Finnish Star Trek satire is now nearing its completion. Today, December 13th, the trailer was published at 0:00 GMT after 14 hours of technical problems. Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning tells the story of the crew of P-Fleet starship C.P.P. Kickstart, which was stranded on Earth after an accident after a battle against the Korg. With the help of the technology to come, their leader, Captain Pirk claims himself as the emperor of the Earth. He conquers the world and rebuilds the P-Fleet. Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning has been in the making since 1999 and will probably be completed in spring 2004. Or maybe not. Time will tell."

Its a Finnish film? I hope they're making it in enlgish, otherwise it wouldn't be much use to a lot of us here at /.

Besides that, some people must have a lot of time on their hands.

Judging from the trailer, it's going to be subtitled in English.

The site is quite slow (although they do have enough bandwidth), probably because it's all done in PHP. Mega-bandwidth doesn't help there..

Knowing how closely the Star Trek imagery is guarded, I can't imagine it will be too long before Paramount force this off the web, especially as about 25% of the trailer is made up of clips from ST episodes.

If you look at the trailer at all, you'd notice that the CGI sequences are not clips from ST episodes. After all, how many times did we see B5... B13, I mean, in Star Trek?

The 3d models used could be a problem, though.

They did indeed render them CGI themselves. With Lightwave 7. And IMNSHO, it actually looks BETTER than the Nemesis.

Go Pirk! Just watch out for Mr. Fukov! And the Romculan War Turkeys! (Those can be a real pain in the twinkler!)

Of course, that won't stop Paramount suing their ass into next week...

What will, however, stop Paramount is the Finnish legal system which is, keeping to European traditions, quite sane. Well, Paramount can sue, but the defendants will not incur any legal costs at all and any damages awarded will be a couple thousand dollars tops. If they get the court to order the defendants take down the film, it will most certainly be mirrored somewhere else.

As a Finn I can tell you that the trailer isn't funny even in Finnish :). But then again, it's probably not supposed to be. Sort of a parody of the usual Bruckheimer-trailers... "THIS IS THE END OF THE WORLD" etc. etc.

Most people in the inteded audience (before the slashdotting, at least) already know what humor and the jokes are going to be like; after all, this is the group's sixth SW-production. They're just showing "this is what it will be like", and keeping all the jokes 'secret'.

If you have the time, look through their earlier work, for example the hilarious Star Wreck V: The Lost Contact. See http://www.starwreck.com/oldies/downloads.php for more details.

Just to let you know (and most other Star Trek geeks know), they're called Klingons, not blacks. While it is true that the actor who played Worf is black, the majority of "Klingons" in Star Trek have been white skinned individuals. In fact, it really doesn't matter because they obviously cake on the "Klingon" skin color anyways. So, do you want them to use real Klingon, or whatever name Star Wreck uses (I forget off hand), actors?
