Saddam Hussein Arrested

MoonChild was the first of hundreds to submit that MSNBC, ABCNews and others are reporting that Saddam Hussein was arrested. This isn't normal Slashdot subject matter, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

I can't see how you get this to be a victory for linux. I think one of the thing we can be sure of is that Sadam is not using Microsoft windows.

Illegal? Nope. Read the U.N. resolutions leading up to the wars. You'll see that we were perfectly within our rights to wage the two wars.

What a load of crap! We both know that those resolutions only served as an attempt to create an illusion for the unwashed masses, that the wars in question should be "legitimate". In that respect, let me paraphrase former British Colonialist Cecil Rhodes: "Men come together for the sole intention of conspiring against other Men". Those resolutions would be important within the circle of UN offices, but in reality? they're merely worthless pieces of paper. And no, I'm not proposing that the complete history of UN is a matter of trivial or piffling efforts, quite the contrary; but in the aforementioned Casus belli, the aim should be to seperate the truth? from the omnipresent propaganda-crap...

You're just spouting what you've heard your left-wing heroes have said.

How true! But I will try to comfort and inform you that next week I'll embark on an ego-trip that will include the total invocation of a right-wing, spouse-beating, 7th adventist redneck persona! And as the saying goes: "True communication is only possible between equals"; maybe we could have a nice and dandy conversation when I've finished the projection?

    Penicillin?
Gee where did that come from (which saved far more ppl than has Vaccine)?
The cure for Scurvey, which prevented ships from exploring too far? hummmm. Does the word Limey mean anything?
How about the disease that was transmitted via milk? How do we solve it? we "Pastuerize" stuff.

As to the Salk Vaccine, well, it was the first succesful vaccine based on an attenuated virus for Polio. Yes, but long before that the biggest scourge was Flu (still is), and SmallPox. A european noticed that Milkpox confirmed immunity and it was used as quite probably the first attuated vaccine (something like early 1800s; I do not remember which or by who). There is no doubt that the USA has done many great things. But then again we are doing these standing on the shoulder of others; Some great while others were monsters
Much of our modern Medicine was based on WWII experiments from Germany and Japan (as well as our own).
Our space program was based on the work of the germans (as was the Soviets) to figure out how to bomb the rest of the world.
Our chemistry comes from mostly Germany (pre WWII).

We would do well as a society to quit trying to take all credit and no blame. Let us take the credit that we deserve ( a great deal ), but let us also accept blame and likewise pass on credit and honour to those that also do good things.
