Hackers on Linux's Exciting Desktop Future

Gentu writes "OSNews features two interviews with prominent open source developers: Robert Love started working at Ximian this week and he will be leading the 'effort to improve the Linux desktop experience via kernel development'. In this Q&A, he explains what he will be working on hardware integration, freedesktop.org's D-BUS & HAL, low latency optimizations, power management, X & 3D and a 'Linux answer to WinFS'. The second interview is with Red Hat's Owen Taylor. Owen speaks of GTK+ development and where he sees the project going in the Gnome 3 timeframe: freedesktop.org's new X server, Cairo support, GTK#, OpenGL & other widgets and more."

      SCO obviously needs another law suit or two, they have way too much time on their hands.

      I'll see what I can do, maybe call in a favour or two.

      This is nothing surprising. It's SCO's standard delay-as-long-as-we-can tactic. SCO knows that as soon as they actually have to offer up their proof that copied code is in Linux, it won't stand up to analysis, their case will be rejected, and their stock will drop like a stone. It'll be game over for SCO as a company. Their current business model depends on not offering any proof of their claims.

      So why not subpoena everyone, to make things as slow and difficult as possible? I'm surprised Elvis and Bigfoot aren't on the list.

      Kinda reminds me of the negotiations at the end of the Korean war. Every last detail of how the talks were to proceed were argued to death before the talks could begin. There were even provisions as to which direction the delegates sat and how high their chairs were in relation to each other before they'd talk. And the reason was, was that the delegates simply didn't want to be there. Same for SCO.

    Why? Why fire one of the most active editors on slashdot?

    Although they claim this is a news site, michael openly admits his extreme bias and his affinity towards slanting the facts to fit his predetermined notions.

    michael was hired in the middle of hijacking the www.censorware.org website in a very immature, unethical, and corrupt manner.

    michael will frequently censor entire threads down to -1, simply because he doesn't agree with it.

    Even worse, sometimes michael (or some other slashdot editors) will mod a thread down to -1, and revoke mod point priveledges if anything, *anything* in that thread is modded up.

    Of course, this is just a partial list. michael's unprofessionalism, hypocrisy, and immaturity are well known to most long term slashdotters. It's amazing that despite this, and despite everyone's complaints to him and CmdrTaco, he has yet to change. This should not continue. michael should be fired now.

    You say that this can't be accomplished by the use of a beautiful body? I think just the opposite. Before you start believing much yourself, if you are indeed one of the Chosen few, you will have to heal yourself of all your prejudices and preconceptions. Prejudices suck, they make me sick, and I feel they're abundant in your mind, maybe too abundant. The fact is that you must breathe with your brain not with your lungs - they only serve to fill you up with the nicotine of your cigarettes.

    But I hope you will also understand this ... take it easy, boy: now don't hurry, don't feel like you're a second Neo of the Matrix; you still haven't done anything to redeem your miserable existence ... I've succeeded, and the pictures you find here are concrete evidence of it. Where's the connection in all that? What's the link between a spiritual revolution and two large breasts, you ask? You're getting on badly, boy, very badly ... the connection is inside me, inside you, on these pages and, most of all, under a thick layer of conformism that makes you look like a paramecium ... don't you know what a paramecium is? Come on now, that's a simple question ... by chance, don't you have a mirror close by?

    Whether you are attending a private sex party or a public club, there are some good manners that should be followed. Obviously these rules will vary for different parties, but here are a few good rules to follow so that you don't become an unwanted guest and never get invited back again.
    • Don't be a sling lizard - In other words, don't get into a sling unless you have a play partner. And if slings are limited, give other people a change to use the sling.
    • Lay down paper towels on the floor before playing to collect any spilled lubrication. You may also want to place a paper towel under the bottoms butt. Wipe off the play area and the bottom completely before leaving the play area. It is the tops responsibility to make sure the lube is wiped off the bottoms butt and that the floor and sling or table is wiped off and clean for the next person.
    • Ask your host what the house rules are This includes where you are allowed to play and what supplies you should bring (I always bring my own lube, beverage, paper towels and other party supplies to private parties). At THE SLING you can bring your own lube or we sell it there. Bring your own beer if desired, we provide sodas, paper towels, gloves, condoms and shower. For all parties it's polite to bring your own towel in case you want to shower
    • Don't just walk up to a play session and join in It's best to try to get some eye contact to see if they want you to join in. It can be very distracting to be in a scene and have somebody just join in especially if you don't want them there.
    • Keep unnecessary conversation and noises out of the play area Try not to have regular conversations where people playing can hear you. Also, if you are a screaming or make loud noises during play, this may disturb other guests. Some people enjoy the loud moans and groans but many find it disturbing.
    • If you move any equipment around return it to the original spot when done For example, if you raise or lower the sling, return it to where it was when you got there. Or if you move a table or chair, return it.
    • Do not share lube. This can lead to the transmission of HIV and other diseases. The cans can become contaminated while playing so it's good to write you name on the jar of crisco or lube.
    • Wash off hands and arms and dick when done playing Preferrably with an antibacterial soap.
    • Don't walk around the party in street clothes or be a gawkerAt most play parties the guys are usually in jocks or chaps so that their butts are exposed

    Slashdot is a blog. Apart from a couple of words specifying the department, and maybe a sentence or two, the "editors" don't create anything in the way of content. So I guess you're saying he's biased in choosing what links to post?
