Metal Gear Solid - Twin Snakes, Mario Easter Eggs

Thanks to Game Informer for its hands-on preview of Metal Gear Solid - The Twin Snakes for GameCube from yesterday's previously mentioned Konami Gamers' Day. The reporter notes that "it seems... clear that Konami is attempting to give gamers the opportunity to see what it would be like to play MGS from the eyes of MGS2", and reports on some Nintendo-specific easter eggs that have been added: "While [demo-ing part of the game set] in an office complex [MGS:TTS creator Denis Dyack] examined nearby desks scattered throughout the room. On one was a small statue of Mario and Yoshi. Shooting the Yoshi statue caused it to belch out his characteristic yelp, while shooting the Mario statute made a classic Nintendo '1UP' noise." IGN Cube also has hands-on impressions of the title, which is set to launch in March.

Doubt it. Usually remakes sell at reduced price (like the final fantasy remakes) but it looks like a fair amount of money has been poured into this and thus a lot of gamecube owneres are excited about this. I would guess they could move a lot of units at regular price.

This is more than just a remake. Kojima has said in a press release that the 2nd half of the game will be different from how it was in the original version. Might I also add that you are paying for the MGS2 engine in the first game, as well as a big graphics update, plus any other new features they decide to add. If you want them to drop the price after all that added work, you're asking for a bit too much.

The engine has the gameplay features of MGS2 but it's probably not related to it at all. The cube is a very different beast compared to the PS2 and this is the first MGS game for it. They specifically hired Silicon Knights (of Eternal Darkness and Legacy of Kain series fame) because they wanted Gamecube expertise they did not themselves have.

Anyone seen the trailer? The cutscenes are impressively well directed, I can't say that I've seen the same quality in any other game. Thanks for that go to Ruyhei Kitamura, the action movie director hired to do them.

I'm a cube owner and never played any MGS game before. This is the perfect way to get a taste of the series in my opinion. I'd guess there's a fair amount of other Gamecube owners that've never played MGS but heard a great deal about it as well and those are who this will be most sold to.
