OS X is the fastest growing "linux distro". At least, everyone I know who used to use Linux now uses OS X. Maybe it's due to being tired with Linux's licensing bullshit, or Linux's shady code history, or the increasing realization that Linux has a far worse security record than OS X, or simply because OS X is a far more advanced operating system than Linux. Whatever the reason, Linux is definitely dying a slow death of attrition at the hard core power user level, at least.

Gentoo on 5 year old hardware? Gentoo is for the most cutting-edge computers! You compile everything. X, KDE, glibc, and you dont want to have to wait. Use debian on your old hardware (since it really only supports old hardware anyway) and gentoo on your 3GHz AMD chip.

:) I also hate RedHat and Fedora for using RPMs!(Mandrake included). The reason I don't like RPMs is that users won't learn how to compile and install software on their own. They will simply ask: "waaah where kan i d/l shareware rpmz??~~". Listen to RMS, he's right about shareware, whatever he said, I can't even remember if he said something... I think I need an 'on teh spokesman' from the FSF to come to my school. It might convert 2 people.
Yes, that's what I think, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks so either. I know for sure that there are people that like user friendlyness and stuff like that(*cough*Mandrake*cough*), my advice for them is: Stick to Windows, install FireFox and ThunderBird, enjoy!

Fiddling with compiler flags in source based distro's is a waste of your time.

You should be modded down for troll. I was simply weighing in my opinion. In no way did I claim this was pure fact. You're a troll, a dumbass, and a worthless human being. I was weighing in what I currently think.
Again, I'll reiterate the topic since you're apparently lacking the intellect to understand it: "Fast growing distro". Not the one with the most users currently. That is, "Fastest growing". And although Mandrake is based in France, it still has a world-wide following.
I am open to criticism of what I say, but there is no reason to attack me. I wonder if you're one of the trolls that feel compelled to stalk me on the internet (yes, sadly, I do have some, you could be from wikipedia, genmay, gamefaqs, or any other shithole on the internet that I've been). So, which is it? Random SlashTroll, or Stalker?
There's really no hard data out there, from what I've seen. I think a slashdot poll would settle this matter better...
