End of the "Lone Asteroid" Theory?

hussar writes "This BBC article reports on research that suggests the dinosaurs were not killed off by the Chicxulub asteroid's immediate effects but ultimately fell to evironmental stresses caused by a second asteroid that hit about 300,000 years later. The second impact may have been in the Indian Ocean."

Lets be honest here for a moment. Because some group of scientists with a huge ego said so.

I mean really....what difference does it make what killed off the Dinosaurs. It will have zero impact on future events so it's not like we can "learn" from it. I can see spending time trying to learn what "seems" to make our magnetic pole reverse every now and then...or spending time trying to determine what brings on an Ice Age or the inverse...but it seems like "Science" is bogged down in pet theories about trivial issues and not concentrating on real science.
One of my "favorite" theories is "Global Warming". If you believe in current theories of Plate Tectonics, and consider time from the standpoint of Geological Events...the you must come to the conclusion that what man does here will have zero impact on the "Earth". It will consume *ALL* things man builds. Hell...if we nuked the entire surface of the Earth, it would recover...we just wouldn't be around to see it...kinda like those old Dinosaurs :)
