Why hasn't anyone done a GiJoe mod for any game lately/at all? I don't know about other /.'ers but the idea of driving in a tank with the speed of a hummer while having dozens of rockets, 2 machine guns, a big'ol gun turret with only one driver sounds like great fun to me. Can't forget about the seacraft or aircraft either. Gotta have missle launching, floating-APCs and helicopters with enough firepower to level small towns single-handedly.

I remember this mod used to be limited to only one server. Is this still the case?

Given how Sony has run a similar game, Planetside, they have a similar propensity to blow this one too with a heavy subscription. Given the quality of the screenshots of the mod, I am leaning towards believing that this mod will outdraw the official battlegrounds game.

If Lucas Arts were smart, they would decide compare what they are working on with what these guys are doing. If these guys are doing a better job then they should stop development on their own game and see if they can get hire these guys to complete the project. Get a license for BF1942 and then sell the commercial product. Much better than trying to do the whole thing yourself just because you Lucas Arts. Companies tend to make piss poor decisions about working with a community to make a good product. Yeah these guys probalbly borrowed Lucas Art content, but if they make a decent product and would like to get it officially sponsored and sold, LA should do it.

The people who put this together must have spent so many hours on it that I can't even fathom. Why would you put that much work into something that's going to get shut down, and likely get you sued?

And for that matter, why not put all that effort into something original, rather than stealing someone else's ideas? Don't you think Star Wars is kinda done to death? What's the point? Have you no imagination of your own to match your programming skills?

If you're going to spend all that time, give the world something NEW.
