China Blocks Typepad, Prompts Weblog Blackout

dcm writes "As U.S. Ambassador Richard Williamson prepares to introduce a resolution at the U.N. Human Rights Commission to censure the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) government for increasing 'repression of its people using the Internet, democratic dialogue, religious expression,' the regime continues to block discourse. On Friday, China began blocking access to Typepad, a paid weblog hosting service in San Mateo, California. The communist regime previously blocked access to BlogSpot, Blogger's free hosting site. Yan Sham-Shackleton filed a report on the Glutter weblog, mentioning China is '...now using blocking software to stop information from leaking into the county via personal sites, an increasingly vibrant China Internet community, and a place where users are slipping in banned information. Some sites in the blogging community are turning black in protest of this event while others are reporting the incident.'"

Three words immediately spring to mind - pot, kettle, black. Mr. Williamson needs to spend more time in the U.S. this year.

Ive said it again and I will say it again, SO F****** WHAT ? If you live in China not only is this your fault its your problem PERIOD. The Communist Goverment was put in power by it OWN people, or through their own apathy.

Waha waha whaa to all the liberals that say well they cant do anything about it look at tienaman... BULLSHIT.

They could do something about if they wanted to , the majority likes things just the way they are, the truth of the matter is the majority of the chinese population is quite happy with the way things are going they are perfectly happy to give away freedoms in return for a prosperity china hasent seen in 2000 years.

Im supposed to give one little rats ass about a billion people on the other side of the globe freedoms being taken away when MY freedoms are being taken away HERE ?

Not a chance, if you want to get all in an uproar and all indignant about something dont do it over more freedom being taken away from the chinese , they never really had any anyhow, BE PISSED about our freedoms HERE being taken away ! Vote with your wallet. Its tough but for the last 2 years I have tried not to buy ANYTHING made in China, for some things its unavoidable, does it matter, not really, but Ill be dammed If they get one cent of my money.

    Dear .edu domain linker,
Please leave the discussions to the adults. When going to the library, please don't confuse the student union with the library. TV's are sometimes provided in the student center for poor students, but this does not make it a library. Please see my previous post for the definition of a library.

PS You look pretty stupid in that picture.
