    I read this in about 4th grade (althought it was new then, ugh 1975(=)

    If my meory is right about 100some pages each and pretty gripping stuff....

    Exiles from Earth was the first I think

    Right in line with a 6th grade or so reading level I would say...

    You may not but I could.
    Its not a Mom and Pop ccd for a $299 camerat at walmart.
    Current digital backs for film cameras like I use are 20,000 a POP !

    Try to take one of you 6mp pics and blow it up to a 6ft poster or art piece, youll be swimming in boxes

    I still shoot film, medium format 6cmx6cm, 25 iso high silver film. I took a picture of a building in NY and the 60th story I can count rivets in the windowsill vents when I blow it up.

    For high quality there is no comparison for film, currently, I would trash my darkroom in a New York minute if I could forgo the nasty chemicals and space in my house, but I cant affork 20,000 for a digital back.

    HOPEFULLY this will drop the price in the even the 3-4k market....

    I cannot disagree. BUT it dosent mean its the right choice or even a good choice.
    I am an extremley adept programmer. I have been coding since I was 7 (in 1977) I started with Fortran (Yes 77 :)
    I could, code web pages, or whatever in assy if I wanted .
    When .Net was announced and the first CLR specs were released for "ratification" I started (just for shits and grins) to code in CLR Assembler it was a challange and something I have yet to find one of my contemperaries can do. well.....its proved valuable for decompilation and editing of obfucticated libraries, and I have even as a stunt created .net web pages in it for the junior programmers that claim nooone could write in it directly. BUT its not a great use needless to say.

    Learing CLR Assy was one of the last things I learned or did "Just because I could" , I feel that way about JS now. I can , and I do, it dosent mean I want to or feel its even remotley the correct choice, for client side it is unfortunatley the ONLY choice for a broad audience....

    I hate JS, it Had potential, 8-9 years ago. What we are seeing now is a push way beyond its original intended scope. The truth is, it would have had much less potential for vunerability if it had not been neglected for so long. Every time I have to get down and dirty with it I think of that. Its Ok, and somethings are nice from a shorthand perspective if youre used to other lll, but for GODS Sake , Revise the spec and put some effort into it, OH Wait, but thats been part of the problem all along, MS puts this in, NS/Moz (Used to) and what do we have , something no one entity controls, or even standards of. Whats wrong with putting a friggin python interpreter in a browser ? Ms is running that way with IronPython (Yea Proof of concept I know) but Read Scott G, and Paul W. aticles on dynamic languages theyre a fan. Oh well, back to ajaxifying the planet because my boss dosent like the flash when he clicks buttons on the web ( Oh wait I quit that job 4 months ago....)

    A WATCHMaker , who can from nothing but raw materials completley fabricate a watch brings about 250,000 a year to start....... A repair man makes the 40-50 k range.

    I am fairly young (35) when I was growing up my Grandfater (a watchmaker by training) a boilerwelder by trade (it paid MUCH better) taught me how to clean and repair a watch from a young age.

    When I was 15 I lived with him to help on the farm since my Great Grandmother moved in with him. I asked for him to take me as an apprectice as a watchmaker (hey I lived there why not and I was good with guns, clocks, etc) besides my bedrrom was the "Watch Room"

    He said he wouldnt mind at all and thought I could make short work of it but he warned me he saw no future in it, as all the watches were going electronic and I could probably never make a living at it.

    Investing 8 hrs a day for 2+ years and not having it be a viable profession made my mind up , I decided not to

    Last year I was in L.A. I REAL WatchMAKER (not watch repair man, hack, etc, but WATCH MAKER, who can from nothing but raw metal make a watch from scratch command UPWARDS of 250,000 a Year.

    DOH ! I have my Grandfather last watch he wore every day, a Seiko, he loved it, it never needed cleaned, and kept perfect time.

    The article is about as dead on as it gets......I wish I wish I wish......

    Yeah, but you already can buy a roll keyboard. You would need something to be able to SEE where the keys were. Hence, a LASER keyboard like the one at thinkgeek.     I worked in a place we handled mail and response devices on a 10k a day basis. That was the fairly easy part IMHO, but when you live and breathe it its not far off. I am a developer so as you said thats the easy part, the funny thing is there are a LOT of facilities already equipped for this that could be subbed out to. Think of non-profit donors and their response devices they include a letter in. Larger orgs (Salvation Army for example) Scan the remiitance (CC info or Check) Do OCR on the RD for notes, and scan any attached notes like "Thanks you guys are great" all this linked back to the donor record in the Donor Managment system , now flip that to simple mail....not biggie. I already had written all the neccesary pieces to the system.....just a matter of DOING it all together......opportunistic my ASS....

    I proposed this in 1998 to a group of investors , they all thought me mad.
    In 2001 I proposed it again to several different groups, unfortunatley for me the timing was bad and it was right after the Anthrax scare, I was seen as being opportunistic even though my meetings had been scheduled before well in advance.........DOH !...well I cant say Why didnt I think of this......I friggin DID !

    The funny part is , is this a public university and as such is this data available to the public or through correct channels.
     
    AND Can you Sue a computer for slander ?, think about it ,I tap my wife on the ass and othr "VIOLENT" type interactions and the Computer system classifies me as "VIOLENT" untrue in this context but then what happens with the data, is it added to my file, my credit report.....etc ?

    I would hink the system to create an enviroment from where I was harrased by the campus authorities then call the computer records AND vidoe in the Civil case......

    My Grandfather was a watchmaker, a good one. When I was about 6 or 7 my father bought a digital watch, it was well over $800 a hefty sum in the early 70's but it was gold with a thin black (red) slit that when the button on the side was pushed the time lit up in the little red-dot LED displays similar to first gen digital calculators.

    We sat down at the kitchen table and as my dad leaned over to show my grandfather the watch, he pushed the button and the time displayed. My grandfather never one to show much emotion shook his head and looked at my dad.

    He said, "I dont understand, how can they call that progress when NOW it takes 2 hands to tell time ?" as he show a quick glance at his favorite self winding chronograph.

    My dads bubble was visibly burst, I never saw him wear the watch again, it sits still in his jewelry box.....

    I LOVE the Idea of the Caller ID Watch as I have refused to carry a cell until about 4 months ago , it drives me nuts and spends most of its time in the car, but I could live with something like this.....BUT PLEASE OMIT THe function requireing me to PRESS A GODDAM BUTTON !

    I mean IBM is a Technology arms dealer, it always has been , look at WWII and the machines they constructed for the NAZI's as part of the Final Solution. DOnt think for one RED second IBM has any concious in this matter, it is for financial gains PERIOD

    Anyone else get the feeling this one has "Homeland Security" written all over it ?
    I mean the intentions may very well be honest and honarable but....
    I build and design large pulsejet engines and I am usually very forthcoming with information, I have archival test info maybe 1 or 2 other people on the planet even have access to and I try to be helpful as time permits, about 2 months AFTER hostilities broke out between Iraq and the US , I got a request for info on builing mid size engines with scrap type material.....

    Needless to say as much as I would have liked to help from a technical standpoint I learned EVEN I can excersise caution when it comes to men in black suits paying me a visit....

    Have at it yall but think first before you respond please...

    My Name is approprate I will make people suffer who cross me and go out of my way to do it, even the Mayor is scared shitless of me after I berated him at a council meeting and told him he ever fucks with me again and well see what people in my neighbordhood think of proerty values, I told him I would paint my house "BRIGHT PINK AND FLOURESCENT GREEN" and on top of it he was going to pay for the paint, when he exclaimed I couldnt do that I said NO ?, Well our town had a housepainting incentive, they City would re-imbursue you for the cost of the paint and it made no mention of color.

    He looked over at the police chief who I know well on a freindly basic, at which point the Chief was visibly laughing, the Mayor red and flustered just sat down and let me continute. 2 Councli memebrs were removed because of that nights tirade as they should have been.

    Its one thing to be a DICK, its ENTIRLEY Another to be and EFFECTIVE ONE

    BUT unfortunatley YOU were just the type of person I added that disclaimer for, and low and BEHOLD , you JUST COULD NOT RESIST.....

    I had someone stealing my lunch for quite some time, SO I took the advice of my boss, he was ex military his suggesion was cook a pack of exlax in brownies and put the brownie in my lunch.

    It was stolen

    All I can do is assume it was eaten since my lunch was never stolen again.

    NOW Before all the goddam whiners start barking about liablity, and poisioning and the like remmeber theis was MY lunch meant to be eaten or discarded my ME, and it was STOLEN.

    Its sad I have to add that but it seems the kind of world we are in where all the know it alls have to bark up and say something they fell makes them look like they know something

    THE ONLY THING thats important to know is that if you STEAL MY LUNCH YOU WILL SUFFER.

    A Minox B will only set you back about a C Note , look on Ebay for Minox , and film is fairly cheap.

    For those NON--Film guys a Minox is a very high quality german SPY camera , the ones used in all those old movies.

    Small , clandestine, and very good optics, far better than any small Digitals sport,
     
    Makes this technology and all its research useless and a waste of money in my opinion.

    My spelling is so horrible its not even funny, 140 wpm at full out but about 60% error rate :) Nice to have an IDE that autocorrects.

    I am often told I pay to much attention to language and its use, but I never try to miss a sharp wit.

    The funny part is all the people that responsed, who were to quick and eager to respond and didnt really read the top portion. Heck you could have said, anyone posting to this thread will forfeit their wives and children to rug weaving in Sri Lanka, I dont think it would have had an other effect.....

    So did I, and I sprayed the hell out of the Chicken coops with it as a kid. Trus me , litterally FOGGING the coops, I can PROMISE there was no adverse effect to egg production or mortality of the brood,

    I always as a kid (ddt was banned many years before we stopped using it) I often thoug "Was it the DDT killing off the insects that the smaller birs ate, that the larger birds ate them that caused the decline ?"
    Then around the early to mid 1980's I started seeing birds I had never seen, and hawks in quantity, a rare sight in ohio in the 1970's even in a rural area.

    I have seen in the last 5 years more Birds of Prey on a SINGLE day than I have my entire childhood.

    WebOS is a trademark, and a product, and it has been for QUITE some time.

    IThey were around some 6 years or more ago and had a very nice product, albeit a little sluggish, it was some sort of Java/Ajax enabled Office suite

    It looks like they got bough out by Hyperoffice, or changed their name, but WebOS is still a registered Trademak, I wouldnt be making it generic like kleenex just yet.
