First Doom3 Tourney @ QuakeCon
Rogerpq3 writes "The battleground is set - it's confirmed that the 9th annual QuakeCon 2004 video game festival and tournament at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas on August 12-15 will host the first DOOM 3 deathmatch championship ever. Be there to game, hang out with 5,000 of your closest friends, and compete for $150,000 in cash and prizes in the NVIDIA QuakeCon 2004 Championship Tournaments. Online registration for QuakeCon 2004 has begun at www.quakecon.org, and the event is free to all attendees."
What!? Arey they promoting Doom3 multiplayer capabilities? Wasn't Doom3 supposed to be a single-player focused game?
Practice what?
It's the same as any other FPS with snazzier graphics. Practicing against ID's braindead AI bots isn't going to help you against real humans.
I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!!!!
Is Amazon making, producing or distributing the game? No. Whatever they say is a guess. Just like every other retailer.
The official doom 3 site made by Id Software says coming soon. I'd believe the guys actually making the game before a retailer who wants to get a bunch of orders.
This is going to be a great way for NVidia to show off their latest video card playing Doom3. But what would be better is if they have some footage of Doom3 being played on a Linux machine with an NVidia card.
(I recall Doom3 is going to be released natively for Linux, although without official support?)
Maybe it would help push ATI to develop better Linux drivers!

umm. you're wrong. In the article it states:
"With DOOM 3 launching this summer, there won't be anyone who has had time to practice or master the game, and almost any QuakeCon attendee has a chance to walk away with one of the exclusive DOOM 3 prizes."
This would imply that DOOM 3 would not be released before QuakeCon or else people there will have had some DOOM 3 practice before the deathmatch event. Since the QuakeCon date is from August 12-15, this would mean DOOM 3 is set to be released sometime after August 15. The August 3 date was based on another distributor's educated guess. It was not a statement from id Software.
Imagine? It won't be hard. You've just described virtually every medium-sized city in the United States.
If you do any traveling by car, you see how much cookie-cutter design is obliterating local flavor. Each place looks like the last place, which looks like the next place. One glance at photos of the U.S. from even forty years ago shows this was not always the case; we're being assimilated.
