New PSP Titles to be Unveiled This Week

Remember, Famitsu claims there will be twenty PSP games announced and only ten (with two more possibilities) titles were named, meaning Sony could have eight or ten more games up their sleeves that are too shocking to reveal.
Or, they only have 10 or 12 games to announce, but they thought 20 sounded better.

The Mk.1 Gameboy is the definiative handheld though. Just about everyone would recognise it.

Personally I wouldn't go updating the icon until the PSP and DS are out, as putting a GBA SP up there would just get out of date quickly, and putting a PSP or DS could lead to more talk if the (perceived) looser of the handheld war that'll probably happen is picked.

Bottom line: DS has Metroid Hunters and a Mario game. Sony has to pull out a couple A-list games for release date or else they're going to falter on the starting line - this might not be the end for Sony, but seeing as how they're already behind in terms of games, it ain't gonna help.

Yeah, I really don't know what Sony's thinking. Why don't they go for the best-selling games, rather than bargain bin crap like Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo*, Dynasty Warriors, Tony Hawk Underground*, Hot Shots Golf, Armored Core, and Disgaea*? You'd think that instead of doing that, they would produce sequels to their most popular franchises and make them PSP launch titles. Oh, wait...

I'm a Nintendo fanboy through and through, but defintely, while I'm not going nuts over the PSP launch line up, it defintely has some strong Japanese titles that can keep it afloat for a bit.

I'll probably be marked off-topic for this, but I've previously mentioned how I wish Sony had gone with a PS1-based system for its first PlayStation Portable:

There's already a huge library of PS1 games. I loved playing them. Developers know how to write for them. Wouldn't it have been a great idea to create a portable game system that played PS1 games? You could have changed a few minor things to help battery life, and to keep it simple: the controller doesn't support vibration, there is no P2, the memory card is (possibly) internal, and the 640MB CD is replaced by smaller-radius media (Sony is moving to UMD for the PSP.) Use a screen only slightly larger than the GBA's, and now the low-res graphics of the PS1 look pretty good.

I'm sure Sony could have made lots of sales on this one. Developers basically get to re-release (almost immediately!) a lot of cool PlayStation games for the portable PS1. I would have gladly shelled out $30 for a re-release of many of the PS1 games I own (imagine Tomb Raider 1 and 2 with updated graphics using the TR:C engine.)

But of course, I'm no systems designer (and it probably shows.) Though, it seems a design like this might have made serious inroads against the GBA.

Of course, based on this comment ("It's pretty close to the retail version."), the system's design might not even be finalized yet, and they might still be re-designing it to try get a decent number of gaming hours off one charge.

Back to the games listed... it just seems to be mostly what many people thought would happen: ports, re-designs or sequels to games already on PS/PS2. It still looks like a neat piece of hardware. But I have concerns over its battery life and durability.
