The Secret Behind the iPod Scroll Wheel

Grump sent in a story saying "Ask any iPod user what they like the most about their device, and most will probably mention the scrollwheel. Here is the story behind the company that makes it (hint: it's not Apple). Great not just for the history, but insight as to both how Apple's design process works, and how the scroll wheel itself works."

I really try to skip the commercials here at slashdot, these are the topics I have excluded.

    Apple
    iMac
    Media (Apple)
    Networking (Apple)
    OS 9
    OS X
    Portables (Apple)
    Technology (Apple)
    Utilities (Apple)
    Wireless (Apple)

Still they are sipping through. Do I have to pay to skip the ipod commercials ?

listen, sugarpuss, an article saying "check out how great the ipod wheel interface is" is a commercial. The tech is used in other things as well, but you didn't read "check out how interesting touchpad tech is" in the title, right?

All it does is activate the Pavlovan drolling of "gee, how cool - I WANT ONE TOO!!!" (and the complementary "Look at me, I'm so cool, I have one already!!") Call it unintended side-effect if you like, this is how society TRAINED most people^H^H^H^H^H^H consumers.
