    one word advertising.
    lenticular displays are becoming quite popular with marketing firms curently and I can see this become a big thing in the next couple of years.

    Or what the manufacturers might do is simply support the broadcast flag through software. The more I think about it, a software solution for supporting the flag is the most cost effective option. Companies don't have to go and redesign any chips and boards all they need to do is have some code monkey do a check for the flag in the software and the job is done no expensive retooling, plus all your exsisting cards can be "upgraded" to support the flag.

    Granted I'm most likey oversimplfying the whole deal here, but this is how I would do it because it's the cheaper option.

    Ok this is offtopic and I'm sure the super secret mod cabel is going to mod me down for it, yada yada...

    All you people bitching about dupes got it all wrong, we need these duplicated stories on slashdot for a few good reasons.

    1) without dupes there would maybe be one story per day on the front page.
    2) without dupes people would have to resort to actually being insightful on their own instead of just copying some other comment from the previous story.
    3) ????
    4) Profit!

    There is a simple reason to your query. If you have people willing to pay $4 for substandard coffee, those same people will be will to pay for "free" internet access.
    when in doubt always look for the profit motives.

    There is a simple flaw in your argument. Both Ebay and Google are large companies, thus they are excluded from being shutdown, now if Ebay were being run by some kid in his parents basement...

    What your describing would be right for screen printing, but comercial printing todays is now done for the most part is done on cmyk presses.

    This might be a stupid question and I'll probably get modded offtopic for it but...

    Where is it law that a news reporting agency (which Google news essentially is) has to provide both sides to the news. The way I understand it is they can display results (report) however they damn well please.

    Sure it isn't very ethical to skew your news reporting to uphold your political views but it's been happening for centuries.

    with all those old win2k machines out there still being used by big business who don't need to upgrade because it still works I can't see why Microsoft wouldn't provide updates to these people. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that there will still be IE updates available to the corporate users who aren't going to upgrade to XP.

    I read the article and found it to be nothing more than a fluff piece. It contained very little about the internals of the ipod nor hardware design.
    There is more indepth information on Synaptics' web site than in this article.



    I'm sure I'll get modded even further off topic for this.

    Oh I agree totally, you shouldn't waste time and money trying to reinvent the wheel. I just find it stupid that somebody would consider this news that apple doesn't make part of the ipod.

    This just in apple doesn't make hard drives!
