IT organizations don't choose.NET for any language advantage, or price. They choose it because it is from ONE VENDOR. The IDE, the server, the support, all from one vendor who has done a TREMENDOUS job of supporting developers despite all the FUD around their business tactics.
Oracle/Sun: its still two vendors, and it is STILL CONFUSING
Google bought Urchin.
Google/Urchin continued to charge customers $199/mo
Google changed Urchin to "Google Analytics" and gave it away for free
On the first day, so many people signed up and started that it brought down the service completely.
Google locked out new customers.
Google locked down the number of profiles (or websites you can track) to 5.
Google has recently opened up the number of profiles to 50 for longer term customers.
With Gmail, Blogger, Flickr, etc, who needs those services, or better yet, who needs to pay for them?

... since their inception. That has been part of their success. Search, News, Blog Search, etc. were or still are "beta" and yet they still add tremendous value to the brand.
check this out, I know it is a bit offtopic, but its worth a looksee. you can search jobs without having to go through the "middle man" of typical websites! http://www.getthejob.com/Google_jobs.aspx/
Please deliver your classified military payload safely. May the death, destruction and oppression contained in your hallowed cylinder bring freedom to all 'muricans!
Thats news to me. MS is pushing ASP.NET 2.0 / Whidbey heavily, with new betas/previews coming out regularly. I work for a software integrator specializing in.NET based solutions, and business has never been better. We are working on a Cold Fusion ->.NET port now, and J2EE ->.NET port as well.
Please elaborate on your loss of control. I have a full suite of open-source projects I am able to use to test, deploy, and integrate with C# / Visual Studio. I would say in fact, that Visual Studio.NET is by far the best development environment ever created, and I'm not the only one who thinks so.
To your core question, quit when you find something better. There are plenty of jobs out there.
