Up until God creates a new virus out of the blue to punish those who "mess around all they want" w/o any regard to values. Why else would a virus just all of a sudden appear out of no where? You think evolution causes this? Think again. Evolution doesn't start back at the drawing board to try again or am I wrong? It keeps going with what it has right? That's the whole point once things get going. Since I don't believe in it I'm guessing and asking all those people who seem to know all about something that is incorrect.

It won't, because a great number of Catholics, Mormons, and Born-again Christians (at least) are absolutely immune from it. (Barring tainted blood transfusions, but those are statistically insignificant.)

The grandparent is obviously a troll. That said...
Where is your vaunted tolerance now? The "right" is supposed to tolerate the injection of a new set of morals as the government endorsed norm, stop preachers teaching about homosexual behavior being a sin, and turn over their guns like good little sheep (among many, many other things), and yet you say to "keep your 'God' bullshit out of scientific discussions". How nice.
God is not incompatible with science. In fact, I daresay science points towards God much more often than not. The troll said that God created the virus to punish the homosexuals. I suppose that be somewhat true, but that would be analogous to someone who has been burned by grabbing a hot stove element, then someone saying that God must have created the stove to punish people that can't keep their hands to themselves. In all likelyhood, HIV did cross over from chimps, quite possibly because people were having sex with them. ssuming that scenario is true, if people hadn't been having sex with them, then HIV/AIDS would not be the problem it is today. Then we'd only have to worry about gohnorrea, herpes, chlamydia, syphillis, HPV, hepatitus, trichomoniasis, and others. Whew!

now, pa-lease, can anyone explain to me why this is even on slashdot - low hitech news day? I think we shoulda've learned by now that a vast majority of biomedical news is trash, simple as that, trash. Overblown, misrepresented and misunderstood, period.

Some times the point is not what people think
HIV is a very unique disease with a most difficult set of transmission routes requiring definite HUMAN intervention for these to be achieved. It is a disease which does not need to exist and would not exist without deliberate HUMAN IGNORANCE on an extreme scale. It would go extinct almost immediately if not for these deliberate human interventions.What is more these human ignorance vectors are all quite well known. There is little doubt about how it may be stopped so lets quit accusing the failures of drug delivery etc for the problem. The arrogant human stupidity that is spreading this disease needs all of our attention.
If I were to suggest that playing in the sewer was lots of fun and simply tell the kids that putting on rubber boots created "safe sewer play" equipment you would find me a dispicable person when I lead a booted class of kids into the sewers to play. There are activities and behaviors that are inherently dangerous and destructive. Making counter argument does not change the facts that these are dangerous.
Every time HIV spreads we find people engaging in behaviors which we know spread the disease. Yes I am a medical expert on this! Yes I know all the counter arguments. They have millions of people dying! I know that stopping the transmission works. HIV patients need quarrantined (home bound etc) for their own protection from secondary diseases. Even treating them in the Hospital is a threat to their safety. They will not spread HIV and we don't need to treat them for the horrid illnesses they get when their failed immune systems contact the general world about them. Suggesting otherwise is to deny them the general protection of reverse isolation quarrantine that we do for other immuno compromised patients such as chemo therapy and transplant patients.
