To explain this is simple:
I am an American Citizen and I pay atrociously high taxes imposed by the US Government. My foreign competition doesn't have to pay those taxes even when it trades in the USA. That is a TRADE WAR by the US Government against me as an American Citizen and the outcome of that war is as certain as taking a gun to my head and discharging it. OK lets get it clear, I am in favor of doing solar/wind etc. However; shortage of coal oil and fissionable materials is a farce. The supply of Coal in the USA is enough to supply the US energy demand for something like 2000+ years even with growth thrown in. The USA is run over with coal. Oil deposits in US federal reserves forbidden for drilling could supply the entire world demand for close to 500 years. Don't go there on nuclear. The supply of ores is massive. Most locations are forbidden for mining for local reasons. In Tennessee for example the rocks of much of the state are so rick in Uranium that they had to close schools and such made with them. The Highland Rim is fairly cooking with the stuff. The supply is so massive that the prospects of ever running out are thousands of years off.
This brings up the real issues of energy. We are not out of it at all. The issues are the control of it to force slavery on whole nations and the pollution it generates. The issue of who controls energy is why the USA does not open its federal lands. If it did, our oil men invested heavily in the dictators of the middle east would lose their shirts. We are protecting really nice men like the king of Saudi Arabia and the other Pirates along the Arabian Coast who finance Al Quada to murder us. These are the real issues.
This brings up the most logical solution to world energy supplies. Bore the Bering Strait. Put electrical cables under it and link up the Europe/Asia/Africa grids with the North and South American ones. Then solar works 100% of the time every time and on time.
Actually the energy demand at home comes in this order (approximate due to some people being different)
(1) Hot water Heaters. They eat the most. They also waste the most.
(2) Lighting
(3) Refrigeration
(4) HVAC equipment
(5) Computers
Right now these are not that far apart in use. Computers are pushing upwards towards 10% of the grid load at home.
Generally the splits in towns are about like this:
(1) Houses 60%
(2) Industry 30%
(3) City Uses (Water/Sewer etc) 10%
Due to an oddity of how people live, actually about 15% of the energy could be saved just by one simple political change. That is stop having sewer and water systems based upon political boundaries and start having them based upon geographic boundaries.
Another would be to rate sewer and water use according to elevation. Higher up uses more energy.
Another energy conservation measure would be to encourage the development of eating facilities in the Industrial Park areas. Get really smart and have housing there too.
The concept of these zoned separate areas causes massive commuting cost.
The issue of stopping solar permits for 2 years is crazy. The problem is that EPA permits for sites probably needs a much better criteria set that either does or does not permit quickly.
What we see here is the Bush Administration doing its best to lock the brakes against any real change in energy.
The Oil Industry is enjoying the run up in prices and is terrified that Americans will actually extract it's bloody fingers from around our necks and is using a bureaucratic trick to halt the process that could end the oil industry strangle hold on American Freedom. Sadly they have been reduced to this tactic because they have so completely screwed the pooch here.
Environmentalism is not the problem here. The issue is a government hell bent on preventing freedom for anyone on earth. Solar energy can bring us complete energy independence without any more blowing mountains to bits or spilling thick black poisonous goo on our land. They know that. They are terrified of a nation that doesn't need to rule the world just to be free. They are terrified of the accountants bringing jail terms for their stealing and corruption. Anything to stop the day of accounting.
This really drives one to another issue. The longevity of the fingerprints will remove their value. All a finger print proves is proximity. As long as a finger print is there, it proves nothing but attendance. If it was a bio-subtance it had a short life span making it not only presence in definition but also proximity in time. That made finger prints useful. The problem here is that these now become "Undated" finger prints and as such unable to be related to events which was their only value in crime ID other than to have a list of suspects.
This points out the most amazing reality about the crime "proof" we see in labs today. For the most part science is destroying evidence entirely. For example: Photos once were valuable. Then retouching started. Then it went to digital where retouching could be infinite. In the end, a photo is little more than fiction in court. Sound prints same. Now we see the ability of the police to fabricate evidence against someone to fullest extent unless we all are aware of what can be done.
I need only give you the names of 2 US College graduates and the damage that they did to the world will trump all the good 100% of foreign born good guys did. Admiral Yamamoto (Japan) and Osama Bin Ladin.
I wish I could put a cork in the apologists for what is a trade war by the US Government against its own citizens. They tax Americans highly and don't tax their foreign competition. The issue here on loyalty is a serious one. If you fail to recognize that for the most part anyone who choses to be a citizen can be security cleared. I wish I could make it clear to a lot of people the depth of the destruction of our own children as a result of this crass attitude sweeping America by our Business community. They are determined to not pay for the country while they loot it. Congress is leading the charge.
A+ for the parent post here! This flooding of our graduate level programs with people from other countries has obvious results. Of course the demand now will be to hire these other persons. In doing so US Government security will shall we say fall into the wrong hands. That will not stop the push it will just bring the obvious results.
I am a programmer who on the job had the task of looking at DARPA's wish list for new projects with the consideration of bidding. I and several others in the company declined to bid because the requested projects were targeted at removing the freedom, privacy and civil rights of our fellow citizens. These projects included looking into how to intercept 100% of all E communications and all Phone and other similar communications. These projects included developing methodologies to evaluate human brains for what they were thinking. I am not against DARPA but so long as major goals are like these, no engineer with morals will want anywhere near the agency.
I have a 100 meter link using a wireless repeater. It would cost a bit but a lot less than a wire to go 500 meters with about 4 repeaters. Or you could try a laser link. That would work too.
My Linksys wireless router plus a repeater would actually have a wireless range of at least 150 meters. I think it is safe to say that you can jump about 100 meters with it. Make sure you have no obstructions and set up using a solar powered UPS. Put the little toy under a water proof cover and set up a set of these in a line.
Of course at that far out place cheating the FCC and using the pringles can trick might will be a workable solution. My network is shooting through a brick wall and a standard stud wall just to get out of the house. Going into the other building it is going through a wall too. I figure a few tricks here would be just fine.
Somebody is loopy! SMS may be charged a lot for and well these charges are high but the cost of SMS is exactly a grand total of NOTHING.
I know you are probably asking how and that is quite simple. Your cell phone transmits a 256 byte message very regularly to the receiving tower and it transmits a corresponding message back to you regularly. This is how your cell phone connects to the network and how they know you are able to receive calls etc. This message has 186 bytes of blank space in it.... unless.... you put an SMS message out or they transmit one to you. SMS rides in this carrier byte packet. As such it costs the network exactly nothing and uses no bandwidth that isn't already in use even if nobody ever sent an SMS message.
So this gets really nice for the company. They bill astronomically for a "Free Good" and we stupidly allow them to bill us for this. SMS should be 100% free with cell phone service. Even the message handling costs are insignificant world wide for this and nobody should ever be billed for it. Of course we stupidly allow them to sell it and we of course buy it stupidly.
The big reason that big success companies become hated is that they try to change the way they gained their success and horde everything for themselves. If Google, or others try to do this they too will get the boot from esteem. Most people do not mind a company trying to profit. I don't.
Examples include Walmart. That outfit started out as a country store which got smart in finance but remembered to serve its customers well and and always made sure to involve the local industry in the marketing plan. Then the kids and finance guys took over from Sam Walton and to say the least, instantly the buy local and support your community stuff went the way of the dinosaurs. Bill Gates at the famous evil empire used to brag about making many other people into millionaires. He made a fortune in the USA and hiring Americans to do it. Then he got rich and decided that he should keep all the money to himself. Being as rich as 4 or 5 US States wasn't enough for him. He just had to move on to China, India and the like, forgetting the guys who made him rich. Then he decided to rent his software for developers in the USA for about $2000 a year. At the same time he practically gave it away in India and China. Well it is no wonder the programmers who were living well with him suddenly became the enemies of the empire.
I know a company McKee Baking in Collegedale Tn. This company has made its original owners and heirs quite wealthy. Nobody is anything but proud of them for their pretty successful baking empire. The reason is that they pay well, and have not tried to dump the people who made their fortune possible. If they ever do I assure you their goodwill will go with it. This is pretty simple stuff people. All you have to do if you get big is not to stomp on people and just go on earning your living. It makes friends and deters enemies.
In the case of Microsoft Corporation, they undertook about 10 years ago to begin to completely destroy the careers of American Programmers. They are hated for it now. Their product lines are not growing and are shuddering with competition because they have just about destroyed any rational reason to partner with them. Google on the other hand is for the time being a friendly helpful and cooperative giant. As long as it stays so it will be so. Once burned the good will of such a company is probably not recoverable. Microsoft will be big for some time but it is in decline and it is it's own fault. If I as a programmer could come and pitch a good new idea and get it moved on to production with their cooperation and partnership, they could be winning but they are refusing to do that. Everybody who tries this game with them loses.
Using a standard stepper motor which is essentially what he has here, the stepper motor can be timed to hit the Back EMF pulse in a position where it becomes a propulsion pulse. Typically the Back EMF pulse is proportional to the load on the motor. The result is that a forward kick equal to the RMS of the Back EMF pulse can be achieved. Since the motor rotated with force equal to the induced coil current less some losses like friction etc, the motor without the Back EMF pulse would be almost 100% efficient. With the Back EMF pulse normally timed symmetrically such that it occurs on exit from a magnetic field the resulting Back EMF works against the rotation of the motor essentially presenting as the "Load" on the motor because it is proportional and appears in the current phase load. Because this phase load can be timed to mismatch by many means, it can appear as an attractive load as one enters the adjacent field for action. Such a motor rather than Braking as is presented in discussion accelerates. The limit of this device is about 140% of line load current in torque.
If you subsequently place magnets in the coils you can also take advantage of a maxwell equation reduction which is F=B^2. This allows one to drag by at 1/2 magnet force losing 1/4 the force with magnetic induction equal to 1/2 the driver force. At the same time adding 50% to the magnetic B field is possible using only 1/2 induction. The resulting 150% B field accelerates with Force of 2.25 times the induction giving a drag of.25 netting for induction a gain of 2 times rotation force. This actually can be asymmetrically powered giving a real gain against induction. This is why the device accelerates given the resident field of a magnet near the device.
The problem most physics types have in seeing this is that they don't follow their rules which include displacement in time and space. As to the claims of energy coming from the energy which cause the magnetic field in the magnets that is just funny. The force to magnetize a magnet is trivial and a time transient. Surely the field is very intense for a moment but that hardly includes any significant energy. Modern magnets are for the most part immune to the demagnetization issues that are discussed in such arguments.
The real issue with this guys device is to give it like all discoveries, or claimed discoveries, a fair, open and decent respectful examination and conclude according to the facts. The argument that it is "impossible" or etc is the argument of an unscientific person. If I told you that a block of metal could emit massive amounts of heat to destroy or power cities in 1930, I would have been decried as a fool and an idiot. It would have been argued to violate the laws of Physics. By 1945 2 cities had been destroyed by the heat from such an impossible event. Try shutting up the arguments and start looking. This might not be a working device and it might be one. A fair hearing is what is called for.

The explanation of laser vs sunlight isn't entirely one of the question above. Sunlight may in fact contain IR radiation at the color of the laser. It contains a fairly diminished amount relative to the pure output of the laser and it's penetration in brightness is diminished a lot. Sunlight IR penetrates about 1/2 inch into a person or less. That is significant and has many good clinical values which are being ignored for the most part. However; a laser by its brightness may penetrate much deeper into a person. If you take a standard 808nm laser at 200mW output (diameter small) this is bright enough to penetrate up to about 3 inches into a person. Bone and such are fairly transparent to the light. If you take a 920nm laser diode and over drive it from its stable Continuous Wave (CW)sustainable amount which is limited by diode heating and pump it up in the order of 100 times that but chop the power into short pulses of 1/10,000 sec sustaining a 1% or so on time the diode is able to heat the same with cooling as it would at CW levels. At the same time the light output is about 10,000 times or more brighter. The result is that a light that might penetrate a person 2 or 3 inches now can literally travel right through almost any short bisection distance.The helmet shows the fans that evidence the overdriving of the diodes.
The processes involved in the IR driving of cells are very frequency dependent and in the top of the IR band. They function from the 635nm down to about 1000nm covering some visible light frequencies. The effects of each frequency are harmonically determined. The damaging of a cell by any process that results in cellular death, causes the release of Ions in the cell that are in concentrations toxic to other adjacent cells. Tissue evidence indicates that cells differentiate into the appropriate types of cells well under these conditions. This means that very nearly any degenerative disease will recover quite well under this treatment. Already Arthritis, now Alzheimer's, and many other diseases respond well. Injuries heal profoundly fast in the order of 20 or more times faster using this technology.
I am writing this in particular in hopes that such a laser device will be applied to the soldiers in Iraq who are suffering Traumatic Brain Injury for in this case the damage can be largely stopped and mostly reversed.
Another hope I have comes from Invetro testing with bacteria and virus that certain frequencies here are near total death to such organisms. This technology is for all intents the super weapon of medicine. It has the potential to accelerate healing, slow or stop degeneration and to kill most pathogens. It is the Atom Bomb of Medicine. For those who don't understand it, just watch it happen.
There is a reason for cloning meat animals that most people have paid little attention to. If you do genetic modifications either by breeding (The old fashioned way) or by genetic technology the process of producing enough copies of your animal for market use is prohibitively long for a patent to apply. As such the economics here are a bit out of the water to do this sort of work. UNLESS: You clone your resulting animal.
This allows you to produce a massive explosion in the population of animals with your genetic modification. In Cows the process to breed a new useful breed takes decades. The math is pretty simple. If you breed a cow and have a calf on the interval of every 3 years, the resulting doubling time to population is 4 years. We computer programmers are pretty familiar with the binary math here. In order to get one million cows (approximately) on the market will take 18 breeding cycles of 4 years or 4 * 18 = 72 years. By old cell cloning, you can develop say 1000 lines in one year and by the time the calf is born you are started in less than one year on your next step up. The result here is that once you have a breed that does what you want, you can really ramp up production to the market. Once you have say 1000 proved out clones, you can use stimulated ovulation at 2 years old and have each cow produce 7 to 8 embryos a month which you can split to close to 50 embryos (Normal embryos) per cow per month for Embryo Transfer breeding. The result is that in 3 years where you would be just getting your first viable calf by normal breeding, you are already able to produce 50,000 pregnancies a month. The math is really here for this.
The questions of genetic damage by Old Cell cloning methodology do come up. These are not esoteric questions. Another question comes to mind with animals or plants which are cloned. Identical Genetic Heritage leads to single point genetic failures. One of the most classic of these involved Potatoes in the 1840's in Ireland. Potatoes as a general rule reproduce by cloning. They don't generally flower. As a result 100% of the potato crop in Ireland at the time had little or no resistance to a fungus and well the rest shall we say is history. With the mad rush to crop optimization that is going on in modern agriculture the eventuality of a world wide famine as entire crop lines fail to disease is approaching 100% certain. For example: Corn is at the present time in the USA and around the world nearly 90% all of the same genetic set. As a result a world wide famine compounded by the Ethanol Lunacy that is going on is almost certain to happen shortly. Imagine the loss of 60% of the feed for our animals world wide. Fun isn't it. Similarly imagine losing almost all cows or pigs or such in a month or two world wide. Sort of makes a "Avian Flu" epidemic look like a joke doesn't it. It is very likely.
There is another serious problem with the genetic optimization of crops. Cotton for example has been bred to have resistance to Roundup by Monsanto. The crop now has no weeds. The farmers now see soil erosion in the winter at 5 to 10 times what used to be unless they plant and kill wheat as a cover crop. Imagine that, they plant their own weeds! Animals with such tight niche capabilities rapidly deplete their environment. Efficiency you see is counter to natural survival.
Chickens drop about 25% to 35% of their food on the ground as a waste they do not use. Farmers picked this up mixed of course with chicken manure and fed it to cows. It was called "Nutrient Enhancement." The result was the passing directly to cattle and back again because chickens were fed back in their meal cattle slaughter cast offs of diseases. This process has had to be stopped by law because it spread BSE and other diseases. It is now illegal to feed these slaughter cast offs to any animal. They have to be disposed of by strict process.

I own chickens. It might seem unrelated but in owning chickens I wanted to learn how best to feed them. (I learned much about their nutrition and the epidemic of obesity in the industrialized world by this.) So I went to the local feed suppliers and tried to determine the best diet for feeding the birds. The answer to the question of how best to feed the birds was always another question that made no sense. "How much Antibiotics do you want?" was the answer! After getting this illogical response about 6 times, and eliminating disease as a reason for this, I finally got it out of the feed suppliers what is going on. Chickens gain 1.3 times as much weight per pound of food consumed when fed antibiotics as when they are not fed them. Typically Chickens convert about 3kg of feed into 1kg of chicken meat but when fed antibiotics it only takes 2.3kg of feed to produce 1kg of chicken meat.
Shortly there after I learned that this was a fairly typical gain associated with feeding animals. I learned that chickens being such high efficiency converters of food into meat and eggs also didn't alter the feed that much in its content. The Future Farmers of America (FFA) typically has an experiment that shows this very well. It involves feeding a laying hen purple dyed food. The egg yolks from that hen become purple!
I learned a lot more about the breeding of birds in the years that passed and about their raising. A typical farm raised bird is sold with about a 4% margin to the farm. This leaves the farm about 25% "under water" financially if the do not feed antibiotics. This is also typical in most meat production. Unless the meat is specifically raised without antibiotics it has them in it. These antibiotics pass through to the one eating the meat and they affect that person exactly as the feed animal. How this works is pretty simple and leads right into our epidemic of fat people. Antibiotics screw of the Glucose metabolism causing Hyperglycemia. Bluntly they cause a temporary diabetic episode. This triggers insulin release and begins damage towards type II diabetes. This causes almost instant weight gain in the individual. But this is hardly all of it regards our feed animals.
McDonald's Corporation, KFC and several other major US food delivery companies have done tremendous research now covering something close to 70 years to optimize user demand and to breed foods that stimulate demand. Chickens for example are highly genetically altered through breeding and other processes so that they produce meat of this profile. Similarly most meat animals have been modified this way. In addition our vegetable crops have been altered this way as well. This modification has come to dominate the production of most food crops in the USA. Potatoes and many other crops have become altered to achieve the goals of McDonald's et al. The essential demand increase is to produce a food that demands more food by screwing up blood sugar. As a result a person gets a very high blood sugar followed by a very low one. This is very nearly a profile for diabetes and weight gain. If you are a farmer, it is very nearly impossible to get farm loans and such to raise crops outside this genetic and marketing chain. As a result it is beyond doubt that McDonald's and other similar institutions have caused our epidemic of obesity. Their success in genetic and farming control is about 20 years old now and it corresponds directly to the time when this obesity started developing dramatically. It is so deep and so profound in the food chain in North America, that it is quite possible to point out that even a vegan who never ate at McDonald's could be proved to have problems directly traced to McDonalds et al.
The point here isn't to divorce any personal responsibility from the system. Rather to point out that it is a far lessor factor than we might like to think. Frankly it has fallen to a trivial level of consideration. The real issue here is when will be realize that our foods have been screwed up to the point wher
This whole suggestion that Medical treatment with particle accelerators is new is not true. The use of such machines is stock medical stuff and has been so for more than 20 years. As to side effects, here is what my mother was told just after she drank some I-131 made in the local accelerator... In response to her question about cancer risk, she was told, "We don't think you will live that long."
The use of focused beams to shoot tumors is also 20 years old or more. The use of the beams to make Gama, X and even Neutron or Positron beams is not new as well. Sorry no news here folks! The Slashdot people got hornswoggled!
If you are paying attention this remark you made is not correct. The natural sensors are quite different from the high-pass filter situation that you describe. There are several effects of the natural design including allowing the devices to respond in a linear fashion to a complete log range above and below that of a sensor with a high-pass filter. It also produces data which is entirely different in value.
High-Pass filters produce absolute value data. Doing a simple parallel subtraction of a data field from a previous field using absolute value data produces no useful data. Doing exactly the same thing to the natural sensor output produces ready for use command data for servo control and the like. It is a calculus similar to that of a slide rule. Unless you understand the difference in the data you understand nothing. The data coming out of both sensors appears identical to the casual user. There is a completely different set of data represented by the values exiting the natural sensor.
The reason this is significant is that in a visual field using a series of 4 parallel operations you can reduce a visual field to useful data. Using a standard 10 mega-pixel camera you can process the logical operations in approximately 42 million clock cycles for the data to be ready using a standard single processor computer. This would allow a standard 3.2Ghz processor to process about 761 frames per second for intelligent data handling for robotic control. Since the processor only needs say 60 frames per second input rate, it has lots of time to do command and control operations. This is a robot with time on its hands. Doing the exact same operation using the usual sensor devices of today takes approximately 1 second to process one frame differential and reduce it to useful data for command and control. In order to process useful data at 4 frames per second you need a quad core machine dedicated to the job. This has to do with the logical control and program steps needed. This is why visual field driving systems are useless today. They simply need too much horsepower to run them and the job is growing geometrically with new requirements using absolute value data. Using the natural differential data, adding new demands is a trivial cost on the system.
I have studied both the physical natural system and the computer systems in depth. I wrote my response because I have noticed a completely mistaken notion that the sensor is not important. I am the son of one of the men who put men on the moon. Because of band width and other issues, My father designed based upon these natural system constraints and was able to handle massive data streams in real time by following these rules. The computers of that time were trivial in ability compared with today. They did well what might well be impossible by the current thinking. Please understand that I am trying to help advance the science.
If you are going to engineer something to do that which is already working, it is wise to reverse engineer. To do that you have to stop trying to improve on the design and copy. The design as it turns out is already optimal. In visual fields for example: The optical response range of the eye in F stops is 16.5 F stops White to Black. The optical range of our best sensors with your high-pass filters is 5.5 F stops. Curiously the photosensitive media has the natural limit of 5.5 F stops. The feedback control is what generates the wide response range. Here is an example of impossible being done. Learn from it.

I live in Alabama. Nobody ever went to the moon without going to my home town first! We are the people who invented the "Green Revolution" that feeds the world. Alabama is a fine state and isn't even the 49th out of 50 economically either. We are doing much better than most of the USA. Yes we have paved roads, good schools and we have running water too. Actually it may surprise the bigoted idiots out there but Alabama is actually one of the most accepting and welcoming societies on earth so we are not even the racists some people think we are. We are one of the centers of computer technology and manufacturing for the world. We are one of the technical leaders in energy, genetics and much more.
To be blunt Alabama is a very nice place with a lot of very bright people and a lot of very nice people. As long as you are somewhat civilized the people of Alabama welcome you and treat you well. Every race finds that this is so. The state has one of the strongest and faster growing economies of the USA. It has a lot to recommend it. The solution to many of the questions like the very good parent of this post is to understand several things about the brain that a 100% map will not disclose. Please understand, the mapping of the brain will be of value though it will be of far less value than anticipated. The reason it will be of little value relative to brain function. We actually already know the processes and the number of steps involved. Also there are several features of the circuitry that are not at all contained in our silicon models.
Here is an abbreviated attempt to point out the differences in brain circuitry and why a map will not be of much value. The first problem is that the brain is dealing with an unfamiliar data type structure to our current digital structures. The data has no absolute value. All data coming in is relative in value to previous data. This produces a linear calculus where answers are arrived at in a single XOR subtraction step. The data form coming in will be of more value to the model than any model as all the computational steps are known past the data entry point. They have been known for a long time. The next problem is that the brain has "ghost circuits." These are analogous to the old time "Cross Talk" functions in analog telephonic circuits. Unlike silicon and other circuits where great effort is made to produce separation of data and isolation of circuits, the brain operates because signals can and do quite intentionally affect adjacent computational results. This is a 3 dimensional space effect. Another reason that a map will not be of much value is that the circuitry is in a chemical bath that is altered by reaction sums. The result is another step in the computation by making relational conclusions.
If I haven't confused everyone by now, it isn't by lack of trying to be as simple as can be. The calculus is similar to slide rule operations. (Something forgotten today.) The other functions produce a structural ability for the circuitry to produce results even with highly error ridden data and with outright gaps in data. Data purity above about 17% is sufficient for nearly perfect operations. The unique feature of the data form is that it also allows data which is arrived at by completely type unrelated sensors to be applied to derive intelligent results. This means you can take the output of an ear and match it to a visual field and get useful data! The differential data structure also allows nearly infinite memory compression and use of broad band differential sums to control responses and a gross filter. You use this driving a car.
The basic problem we have in producing an analog to the brain in computers (Artificial Intelligence Type) is that we attempt to do with absolute value sensors what is being done with relative sensors. The result is that computations form a geometrically increasingly difficult solution set when differential data would have produced a linear solution set. To be plain this allows as little as 4 or 5 computational steps to arrive at a very intelligent solution when a googleplex of steps are required using absolute value processing with a lessor result.
There is also a sensor reality that is missing. All natural sensors are motor controlled to center point damping which is a time delay cancellation producing only differential data for output. None of our synthetic sensors do this function and it is why we do not get the results we want. It is really a pretty simple fact that if you want to reverse engineer something you should actually reverse engineer it. Mapping the brain will disclose logical circuits we already know exist and the results of their calculations. Only the data form will tell what is going on.
Renewable fuels suffer from several severe problems the green's don't want to see. The first is that farming is mining. Yes a farmer mines his soil. The process is exceptionally environmentally damaging. A typical farm loses about 5,000 or more pounds of material to erosion every year per acre. (Hectare conversion is approximately 5600 kg/hectare) The farmed items remove another 100 or so pounds per acre every year. The best soil recovery rates are below the 100 pounds per acre line.
All energy sourcing has problems including wind power. Wind power alters weather and precipitation. NOTHING is "clean" or nice like supposed by some.
Nuclear power emits trivial amounts of nuclear pollution generally and appears to have little other problems yet it causes massive thermal pollution. There is no free lunch here. Nuclear is probably the best we have in the currently available options list. Yes even solar has problems.
There are other options coming in the future but even the Zero Point energy is not without problems. Unlimited energy is an unlimited problem unless used wisely and within the confines of the system you work.
The best example of the damage of renewable fuels in current times is the Ethanol production of the USA. This has already caused a 3:1 rise in the cost of food for the poor of the world. This is causing massive damage to the environment as well. The USA can live independent of the world and with renewable fuels. The rest of the world may not be able to live with that solution.
For the advocates of coal, there is a serious problem. The Geology of Coal has made it a virtual Nuclear Waste Dump. A typical large coal fired power plant will send up the stacks in the soot radiation equal the that of a nuclear reactor's entire content every few years. There is no "Clean Coal."
The best suggestion is where possible to reduce demand by doing our work more efficiently. The demand situation of our grids says that we must end incandescent lights. The demand situation also demands the end of CRT computer and TV devices. The situation also demands the end of many other on going losses. The end of biodegradable items is one such change that must happen. Biodegradable was developed to cause more demand for oil products. It works. The demand situation demands attention to Automated Driving to reduce human behavior induced waste. This goes on and on. There are many good suggestions.
Finally attention must be paid to the causes of human population growth. Specifically the fact that tyranny and poverty cause population growth. Nations with freedom and prosperity do not over populate.
I want to pitch a little bit of history of the Bill of Rights in the US Constitution. It is critical to this discussion.
The Bill of Rights pushed by the "Anti-Federalists" led by Thomas Jefferson was never intended to give the government power nor was it intended to do anything other than provide a tripwire for the citizens to know the government was getting out of hand. It wasn't an enumeration of rights either. T. Jefferson saw the French Revolution supposed to be a copy of our own revolution going seriously wrong. He built this to prevent terror by the state. That is the reason pure and simple. It was to protect the people from terrorism of the worst kind.
Rather than being a beginner to terrorism as the press and President would have you believe the USA was forged in a sea of terrorism. Its right there in the Declaration of Independence if you want to read it. It happened in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama from 1810 to 1814 with tens of thousands killed. It happened in the Plains Indian Wars of the 1867 to 1885 period. It happened again in the West USA as late as after 1900! (I know my family was there!) Yes it was state sponsored. England Paid the bills. Yes it was religious extremist terrorists every time.
The USA is an ignorant fool if it thinks that giving up its right will make it safe. These rights including the right to be armed are essential rights. Just like removing the quills from a porcupine does not make it safer or protect its rights, removing the rights of people does not make them safe or protect them. Just as a quill free porcupine is now at risk of all terrors people without their rights are the same. As nobody makes a business of kicking porcupines nobody makes a business of picking on a well armed and well defended people who defend their rights.
Today we in the USA see ourselves threatened on every side by a terrorism of the State which is using Al Quada as a mafia enforcer to extract about a trillion dollars in stolen money from the American People each year as a result of this protection racket. This engine of terrorism comes up with new threats every appropriations season in congress. This terrorism by the state has broken our currency stealing more than 1/3 of the value of everything in the USA. It has broken our armed forces in the world and threatens to sink the entire world into a new reign of terror such as has never been seen. All of this is in the name of the "Patriot Act". Real patriots will oppose the sheering of rights that makes this possible.

Why on earth do lies like this one get said. He supported a monument being posted. However; nothing of the sort of this judge being a bigot is real. I know Judge Moore. A kinder more gentleman I have not known, especially in political affairs. He is a most decent man.
I wonder how many more lies are going to be posted to/. and how many more moderators will call it troll or something like that. The simple fact is that Ron Paul is a decent man who holds a strong position set in defense of the USA and its Constitution.
If you are listening, it typically does not rain very much in August, September and October in Alabama. By November the rain fall is usually a bit higher but typically our "Dry Season" begins in late June and ends about the end of October. Typical rainfall in North Alabama is about 55 inches a year give or take a few inches. Most of this falls in the period from January through May with no true dry season but it gets pretty dry here.
I just dug a pond because the best time to dig is when it is dry. The soil for 3 feet down was powder dry. After 3 feet the material largely clay became wet enough to stick together and not make dust. By 6 feet it was able to be compressed into molded shapes like potters clay. At 8 feet it was mud. When I added water (I have a very good well) the pond held water and I have begun slowly filling it. The well is MSL 680 at the top and the pump is at MSL 555. The Wheeler Res., about 15 miles distant is MSL 618 +/- a few feet.
I am making no great effort to fill the pond adding water only 2 or 3 hours a day. It is progressing. The pond will hold about 400,000 gallons when filled. The problem with the Tennessee River is that it is a "cap rock" stream having surges of flow when it rains. My area in North Alabama is actually a lake of considerable depth. This lake formed as a result of the washout of 5 big lakes in the Chattanooga Tn region in recent geologic history. This formed all of the structure of soil chert and clay for varied depths up to about 100 feet in my area. Currently the lake is stuffed with chert and clay but the lake is very much there with lots of water in it. It doesn't flow much.

OK lets get it clear, I am in favor of doing solar/wind etc. However; shortage of coal oil and fissionable materials is a farce. The supply of Coal in the USA is enough to supply the US energy demand for something like 2000+ years even with growth thrown in. The USA is run over with coal. Oil deposits in US federal reserves forbidden for drilling could supply the entire world demand for close to 500 years. Don't go there on nuclear. The supply of ores is massive. Most locations are forbidden for mining for local reasons. In Tennessee for example the rocks of much of the state are so rick in Uranium that they had to close schools and such made with them. The Highland Rim is fairly cooking with the stuff. The supply is so massive that the prospects of ever running out are thousands of years off. This brings up the real issues of energy. We are not out of it at all. The issues are the control of it to force slavery on whole nations and the pollution it generates. The issue of who controls energy is why the USA does not open its federal lands. If it did, our oil men invested heavily in the dictators of the middle east would lose their shirts. We are protecting really nice men like the king of Saudi Arabia and the other Pirates along the Arabian Coast who finance Al Quada to murder us. These are the real issues.
This brings up the most logical solution to world energy supplies. Bore the Bering Strait. Put electrical cables under it and link up the Europe/Asia/Africa grids with the North and South American ones. Then solar works 100% of the time every time and on time.
Actually the energy demand at home comes in this order (approximate due to some people being different) (1) Hot water Heaters. They eat the most. They also waste the most. (2) Lighting (3) Refrigeration (4) HVAC equipment (5) Computers Right now these are not that far apart in use. Computers are pushing upwards towards 10% of the grid load at home. Generally the splits in towns are about like this: (1) Houses 60% (2) Industry 30% (3) City Uses (Water/Sewer etc) 10% Due to an oddity of how people live, actually about 15% of the energy could be saved just by one simple political change. That is stop having sewer and water systems based upon political boundaries and start having them based upon geographic boundaries. Another would be to rate sewer and water use according to elevation. Higher up uses more energy. Another energy conservation measure would be to encourage the development of eating facilities in the Industrial Park areas. Get really smart and have housing there too. The concept of these zoned separate areas causes massive commuting cost. The issue of stopping solar permits for 2 years is crazy. The problem is that EPA permits for sites probably needs a much better criteria set that either does or does not permit quickly. What we see here is the Bush Administration doing its best to lock the brakes against any real change in energy. The Oil Industry is enjoying the run up in prices and is terrified that Americans will actually extract it's bloody fingers from around our necks and is using a bureaucratic trick to halt the process that could end the oil industry strangle hold on American Freedom. Sadly they have been reduced to this tactic because they have so completely screwed the pooch here. Environmentalism is not the problem here. The issue is a government hell bent on preventing freedom for anyone on earth. Solar energy can bring us complete energy independence without any more blowing mountains to bits or spilling thick black poisonous goo on our land. They know that. They are terrified of a nation that doesn't need to rule the world just to be free. They are terrified of the accountants bringing jail terms for their stealing and corruption. Anything to stop the day of accounting.
This really drives one to another issue. The longevity of the fingerprints will remove their value. All a finger print proves is proximity. As long as a finger print is there, it proves nothing but attendance. If it was a bio-subtance it had a short life span making it not only presence in definition but also proximity in time. That made finger prints useful. The problem here is that these now become "Undated" finger prints and as such unable to be related to events which was their only value in crime ID other than to have a list of suspects. This points out the most amazing reality about the crime "proof" we see in labs today. For the most part science is destroying evidence entirely. For example: Photos once were valuable. Then retouching started. Then it went to digital where retouching could be infinite. In the end, a photo is little more than fiction in court. Sound prints same. Now we see the ability of the police to fabricate evidence against someone to fullest extent unless we all are aware of what can be done.
I need only give you the names of 2 US College graduates and the damage that they did to the world will trump all the good 100% of foreign born good guys did. Admiral Yamamoto (Japan) and Osama Bin Ladin. I wish I could put a cork in the apologists for what is a trade war by the US Government against its own citizens. They tax Americans highly and don't tax their foreign competition. The issue here on loyalty is a serious one. If you fail to recognize that for the most part anyone who choses to be a citizen can be security cleared. Only someone determined to be disloyal to the USA would wind up in the position of the Rail Gun developer. He needs only to obtain citizenship. I wish I could make it clear to a lot of people the depth of the destruction of our own children as a result of this crass attitude sweeping America by our Business community. They are determined to not pay for the country while they loot it. Congress is leading the charge.
A+ for the parent post here! This flooding of our graduate level programs with people from other countries has obvious results. Of course the demand now will be to hire these other persons. In doing so US Government security will shall we say fall into the wrong hands. That will not stop the push it will just bring the obvious results.
I am a programmer who on the job had the task of looking at DARPA's wish list for new projects with the consideration of bidding. I and several others in the company declined to bid because the requested projects were targeted at removing the freedom, privacy and civil rights of our fellow citizens. These projects included looking into how to intercept 100% of all E communications and all Phone and other similar communications. These projects included developing methodologies to evaluate human brains for what they were thinking. I am not against DARPA but so long as major goals are like these, no engineer with morals will want anywhere near the agency.
I have a 100 meter link using a wireless repeater. It would cost a bit but a lot less than a wire to go 500 meters with about 4 repeaters. Or you could try a laser link. That would work too.
My Linksys wireless router plus a repeater would actually have a wireless range of at least 150 meters. I think it is safe to say that you can jump about 100 meters with it. Make sure you have no obstructions and set up using a solar powered UPS. Put the little toy under a water proof cover and set up a set of these in a line.
Of course at that far out place cheating the FCC and using the pringles can trick might will be a workable solution. My network is shooting through a brick wall and a standard stud wall just to get out of the house. Going into the other building it is going through a wall too. I figure a few tricks here would be just fine.
Somebody is loopy! SMS may be charged a lot for and well these charges are high but the cost of SMS is exactly a grand total of NOTHING.
I know you are probably asking how and that is quite simple. Your cell phone transmits a 256 byte message very regularly to the receiving tower and it transmits a corresponding message back to you regularly. This is how your cell phone connects to the network and how they know you are able to receive calls etc. This message has 186 bytes of blank space in it .... unless .... you put an SMS message out or they transmit one to you. SMS rides in this carrier byte packet. As such it costs the network exactly nothing and uses no bandwidth that isn't already in use even if nobody ever sent an SMS message.
So this gets really nice for the company. They bill astronomically for a "Free Good" and we stupidly allow them to bill us for this. SMS should be 100% free with cell phone service. Even the message handling costs are insignificant world wide for this and nobody should ever be billed for it. Of course we stupidly allow them to sell it and we of course buy it stupidly.
The big reason that big success companies become hated is that they try to change the way they gained their success and horde everything for themselves. If Google, or others try to do this they too will get the boot from esteem. Most people do not mind a company trying to profit. I don't.
Examples include Walmart. That outfit started out as a country store which got smart in finance but remembered to serve its customers well and and always made sure to involve the local industry in the marketing plan. Then the kids and finance guys took over from Sam Walton and to say the least, instantly the buy local and support your community stuff went the way of the dinosaurs. Bill Gates at the famous evil empire used to brag about making many other people into millionaires. He made a fortune in the USA and hiring Americans to do it. Then he got rich and decided that he should keep all the money to himself. Being as rich as 4 or 5 US States wasn't enough for him. He just had to move on to China, India and the like, forgetting the guys who made him rich. Then he decided to rent his software for developers in the USA for about $2000 a year. At the same time he practically gave it away in India and China. Well it is no wonder the programmers who were living well with him suddenly became the enemies of the empire.
I know a company McKee Baking in Collegedale Tn. This company has made its original owners and heirs quite wealthy. Nobody is anything but proud of them for their pretty successful baking empire. The reason is that they pay well, and have not tried to dump the people who made their fortune possible. If they ever do I assure you their goodwill will go with it. This is pretty simple stuff people. All you have to do if you get big is not to stomp on people and just go on earning your living. It makes friends and deters enemies.
In the case of Microsoft Corporation, they undertook about 10 years ago to begin to completely destroy the careers of American Programmers. They are hated for it now. Their product lines are not growing and are shuddering with competition because they have just about destroyed any rational reason to partner with them. Google on the other hand is for the time being a friendly helpful and cooperative giant. As long as it stays so it will be so. Once burned the good will of such a company is probably not recoverable. Microsoft will be big for some time but it is in decline and it is it's own fault. If I as a programmer could come and pitch a good new idea and get it moved on to production with their cooperation and partnership, they could be winning but they are refusing to do that. Everybody who tries this game with them loses.
Using a standard stepper motor which is essentially what he has here, the stepper motor can be timed to hit the Back EMF pulse in a position where it becomes a propulsion pulse. Typically the Back EMF pulse is proportional to the load on the motor. The result is that a forward kick equal to the RMS of the Back EMF pulse can be achieved. Since the motor rotated with force equal to the induced coil current less some losses like friction etc, the motor without the Back EMF pulse would be almost 100% efficient. With the Back EMF pulse normally timed symmetrically such that it occurs on exit from a magnetic field the resulting Back EMF works against the rotation of the motor essentially presenting as the "Load" on the motor because it is proportional and appears in the current phase load. Because this phase load can be timed to mismatch by many means, it can appear as an attractive load as one enters the adjacent field for action. Such a motor rather than Braking as is presented in discussion accelerates. The limit of this device is about 140% of line load current in torque.
If you subsequently place magnets in the coils you can also take advantage of a maxwell equation reduction which is F=B^2. This allows one to drag by at 1/2 magnet force losing 1/4 the force with magnetic induction equal to 1/2 the driver force. At the same time adding 50% to the magnetic B field is possible using only 1/2 induction. The resulting 150% B field accelerates with Force of 2.25 times the induction giving a drag of .25 netting for induction a gain of 2 times rotation force. This actually can be asymmetrically powered giving a real gain against induction. This is why the device accelerates given the resident field of a magnet near the device.
The problem most physics types have in seeing this is that they don't follow their rules which include displacement in time and space. As to the claims of energy coming from the energy which cause the magnetic field in the magnets that is just funny. The force to magnetize a magnet is trivial and a time transient. Surely the field is very intense for a moment but that hardly includes any significant energy. Modern magnets are for the most part immune to the demagnetization issues that are discussed in such arguments.
The real issue with this guys device is to give it like all discoveries, or claimed discoveries, a fair, open and decent respectful examination and conclude according to the facts. The argument that it is "impossible" or etc is the argument of an unscientific person. If I told you that a block of metal could emit massive amounts of heat to destroy or power cities in 1930, I would have been decried as a fool and an idiot. It would have been argued to violate the laws of Physics. By 1945 2 cities had been destroyed by the heat from such an impossible event. Try shutting up the arguments and start looking. This might not be a working device and it might be one. A fair hearing is what is called for.

The explanation of laser vs sunlight isn't entirely one of the question above. Sunlight may in fact contain IR radiation at the color of the laser. It contains a fairly diminished amount relative to the pure output of the laser and it's penetration in brightness is diminished a lot. Sunlight IR penetrates about 1/2 inch into a person or less. That is significant and has many good clinical values which are being ignored for the most part. However; a laser by its brightness may penetrate much deeper into a person. If you take a standard 808nm laser at 200mW output (diameter small) this is bright enough to penetrate up to about 3 inches into a person. Bone and such are fairly transparent to the light. If you take a 920nm laser diode and over drive it from its stable Continuous Wave (CW)sustainable amount which is limited by diode heating and pump it up in the order of 100 times that but chop the power into short pulses of 1/10,000 sec sustaining a 1% or so on time the diode is able to heat the same with cooling as it would at CW levels. At the same time the light output is about 10,000 times or more brighter. The result is that a light that might penetrate a person 2 or 3 inches now can literally travel right through almost any short bisection distance.The helmet shows the fans that evidence the overdriving of the diodes.
The processes involved in the IR driving of cells are very frequency dependent and in the top of the IR band. They function from the 635nm down to about 1000nm covering some visible light frequencies. The effects of each frequency are harmonically determined. The Krebs Cycle respiration of cells results in the emission of light between about 950nm and 750nm which is collected in Mitochondria substrates, doubled down to a microwave frequency and full wave bridge rectified into DC current to drive the voltage potentials in the cell. Laser light at or near this band of light directly drives cellular energy stores in a photo-voltaic process.
The damaging of a cell by any process that results in cellular death, causes the release of Ions in the cell that are in concentrations toxic to other adjacent cells. The result is that these cells no longer can achieve by normal respiration sufficient voltage to continue life processes and they too break down and die. The resulting cascade is only interrupted by strong circulation boundaries. This is why strokes and heart attacks initially damage trivial amounts of tissue and ripen to severe damage.
The human body develops large regions of tissue that are at sub sustainable life cycle energy and these degrade over long or short periods of time into dead tissue. Application of a laser will bring these dying or sub par function cells back up to full par. What is more cells forced into this dangerous condition by the death of adjacent cells are frequently able to recover all the way. Tissue evidence indicates that cells differentiate into the appropriate types of cells well under these conditions. This means that very nearly any degenerative disease will recover quite well under this treatment. Already Arthritis, now Alzheimer's, and many other diseases respond well. Injuries heal profoundly fast in the order of 20 or more times faster using this technology.
I am writing this in particular in hopes that such a laser device will be applied to the soldiers in Iraq who are suffering Traumatic Brain Injury for in this case the damage can be largely stopped and mostly reversed.
Another hope I have comes from Invetro testing with bacteria and virus that certain frequencies here are near total death to such organisms. This technology is for all intents the super weapon of medicine. It has the potential to accelerate healing, slow or stop degeneration and to kill most pathogens. It is the Atom Bomb of Medicine. For those who don't understand it, just watch it happen.
There is a reason for cloning meat animals that most people have paid little attention to. If you do genetic modifications either by breeding (The old fashioned way) or by genetic technology the process of producing enough copies of your animal for market use is prohibitively long for a patent to apply. As such the economics here are a bit out of the water to do this sort of work. UNLESS: You clone your resulting animal.
This allows you to produce a massive explosion in the population of animals with your genetic modification. In Cows the process to breed a new useful breed takes decades. The math is pretty simple. If you breed a cow and have a calf on the interval of every 3 years, the resulting doubling time to population is 4 years. We computer programmers are pretty familiar with the binary math here. In order to get one million cows (approximately) on the market will take 18 breeding cycles of 4 years or 4 * 18 = 72 years. By old cell cloning, you can develop say 1000 lines in one year and by the time the calf is born you are started in less than one year on your next step up. The result here is that once you have a breed that does what you want, you can really ramp up production to the market. Once you have say 1000 proved out clones, you can use stimulated ovulation at 2 years old and have each cow produce 7 to 8 embryos a month which you can split to close to 50 embryos (Normal embryos) per cow per month for Embryo Transfer breeding. The result is that in 3 years where you would be just getting your first viable calf by normal breeding, you are already able to produce 50,000 pregnancies a month. The math is really here for this.
The questions of genetic damage by Old Cell cloning methodology do come up. These are not esoteric questions. Another question comes to mind with animals or plants which are cloned. Identical Genetic Heritage leads to single point genetic failures. One of the most classic of these involved Potatoes in the 1840's in Ireland. Potatoes as a general rule reproduce by cloning. They don't generally flower. As a result 100% of the potato crop in Ireland at the time had little or no resistance to a fungus and well the rest shall we say is history. With the mad rush to crop optimization that is going on in modern agriculture the eventuality of a world wide famine as entire crop lines fail to disease is approaching 100% certain. For example: Corn is at the present time in the USA and around the world nearly 90% all of the same genetic set. As a result a world wide famine compounded by the Ethanol Lunacy that is going on is almost certain to happen shortly. Imagine the loss of 60% of the feed for our animals world wide. Fun isn't it. Similarly imagine losing almost all cows or pigs or such in a month or two world wide. Sort of makes a "Avian Flu" epidemic look like a joke doesn't it. It is very likely.
There is another serious problem with the genetic optimization of crops. Cotton for example has been bred to have resistance to Roundup by Monsanto. The crop now has no weeds. The farmers now see soil erosion in the winter at 5 to 10 times what used to be unless they plant and kill wheat as a cover crop. Imagine that, they plant their own weeds! Animals with such tight niche capabilities rapidly deplete their environment. Efficiency you see is counter to natural survival.
Chickens drop about 25% to 35% of their food on the ground as a waste they do not use. Farmers picked this up mixed of course with chicken manure and fed it to cows. I own chickens. It might seem unrelated but in owning chickens I wanted to learn how best to feed them. (I learned much about their nutrition and the epidemic of obesity in the industrialized world by this.) So I went to the local feed suppliers and tried to determine the best diet for feeding the birds. The answer to the question of how best to feed the birds was always another question that made no sense. "How much Antibiotics do you want?" was the answer! After getting this illogical response about 6 times, and eliminating disease as a reason for this, I finally got it out of the feed suppliers what is going on. Chickens gain 1.3 times as much weight per pound of food consumed when fed antibiotics as when they are not fed them. Typically Chickens convert about 3kg of feed into 1kg of chicken meat but when fed antibiotics it only takes 2.3kg of feed to produce 1kg of chicken meat.
Shortly there after I learned that this was a fairly typical gain associated with feeding animals. I learned that chickens being such high efficiency converters of food into meat and eggs also didn't alter the feed that much in its content. The Future Farmers of America (FFA) typically has an experiment that shows this very well. It involves feeding a laying hen purple dyed food. The egg yolks from that hen become purple!
I learned a lot more about the breeding of birds in the years that passed and about their raising. A typical farm raised bird is sold with about a 4% margin to the farm. This leaves the farm about 25% "under water" financially if the do not feed antibiotics. This is also typical in most meat production. Unless the meat is specifically raised without antibiotics it has them in it. These antibiotics pass through to the one eating the meat and they affect that person exactly as the feed animal. How this works is pretty simple and leads right into our epidemic of fat people. Antibiotics screw of the Glucose metabolism causing Hyperglycemia. Bluntly they cause a temporary diabetic episode. This triggers insulin release and begins damage towards type II diabetes. This causes almost instant weight gain in the individual. But this is hardly all of it regards our feed animals.
McDonald's Corporation, KFC and several other major US food delivery companies have done tremendous research now covering something close to 70 years to optimize user demand and to breed foods that stimulate demand. Chickens for example are highly genetically altered through breeding and other processes so that they produce meat of this profile. Similarly most meat animals have been modified this way. In addition our vegetable crops have been altered this way as well. This modification has come to dominate the production of most food crops in the USA. Potatoes and many other crops have become altered to achieve the goals of McDonald's et al. The essential demand increase is to produce a food that demands more food by screwing up blood sugar. As a result a person gets a very high blood sugar followed by a very low one. This is very nearly a profile for diabetes and weight gain. If you are a farmer, it is very nearly impossible to get farm loans and such to raise crops outside this genetic and marketing chain. As a result it is beyond doubt that McDonald's and other similar institutions have caused our epidemic of obesity. Their success in genetic and farming control is about 20 years old now and it corresponds directly to the time when this obesity started developing dramatically. It is so deep and so profound in the food chain in North America, that it is quite possible to point out that even a vegan who never ate at McDonald's could be proved to have problems directly traced to McDonalds et al.
The point here isn't to divorce any personal responsibility from the system. Rather to point out that it is a far lessor factor than we might like to think. Frankly it has fallen to a trivial level of consideration. The real issue here is when will be realize that our foods have been screwed up to the point wher

If you are paying attention this remark you made is not correct. The natural sensors are quite different from the high-pass filter situation that you describe. There are several effects of the natural design including allowing the devices to respond in a linear fashion to a complete log range above and below that of a sensor with a high-pass filter. It also produces data which is entirely different in value.
High-Pass filters produce absolute value data. Doing a simple parallel subtraction of a data field from a previous field using absolute value data produces no useful data. Doing exactly the same thing to the natural sensor output produces ready for use command data for servo control and the like. It is a calculus similar to that of a slide rule. Unless you understand the difference in the data you understand nothing. The data coming out of both sensors appears identical to the casual user. There is a completely different set of data represented by the values exiting the natural sensor.
The reason this is significant is that in a visual field using a series of 4 parallel operations you can reduce a visual field to useful data. Using a standard 10 mega-pixel camera you can process the logical operations in approximately 42 million clock cycles for the data to be ready using a standard single processor computer. This would allow a standard 3.2Ghz processor to process about 761 frames per second for intelligent data handling for robotic control. Since the processor only needs say 60 frames per second input rate, it has lots of time to do command and control operations. This is a robot with time on its hands. Doing the exact same operation using the usual sensor devices of today takes approximately 1 second to process one frame differential and reduce it to useful data for command and control. In order to process useful data at 4 frames per second you need a quad core machine dedicated to the job. This has to do with the logical control and program steps needed. This is why visual field driving systems are useless today. They simply need too much horsepower to run them and the job is growing geometrically with new requirements using absolute value data. Using the natural differential data, adding new demands is a trivial cost on the system.
I have studied both the physical natural system and the computer systems in depth. I wrote my response because I have noticed a completely mistaken notion that the sensor is not important. I am the son of one of the men who put men on the moon. Because of band width and other issues, My father designed based upon these natural system constraints and was able to handle massive data streams in real time by following these rules. The computers of that time were trivial in ability compared with today. They did well what might well be impossible by the current thinking. Please understand that I am trying to help advance the science.
If you are going to engineer something to do that which is already working, it is wise to reverse engineer. To do that you have to stop trying to improve on the design and copy. The design as it turns out is already optimal. In visual fields for example: The optical response range of the eye in F stops is 16.5 F stops White to Black. The optical range of our best sensors with your high-pass filters is 5.5 F stops. Curiously the photosensitive media has the natural limit of 5.5 F stops. The feedback control is what generates the wide response range. Here is an example of impossible being done. Learn from it.

We are one of the centers of computer technology and manufacturing for the world. We are one of the technical leaders in energy, genetics and much more.
To be blunt Alabama is a very nice place with a lot of very bright people and a lot of very nice people. As long as you are somewhat civilized the people of Alabama welcome you and treat you well. The solution to many of the questions like the very good parent of this post is to understand several things about the brain that a 100% map will not disclose. Please understand, the mapping of the brain will be of value though it will be of far less value than anticipated. The reason it will be of little value relative to brain function. We actually already know the processes and the number of steps involved. Also there are several features of the circuitry that are not at all contained in our silicon models.
Here is an abbreviated attempt to point out the differences in brain circuitry and why a map will not be of much value. The first problem is that the brain is dealing with an unfamiliar data type structure to our current digital structures. The data has no absolute value. All data coming in is relative in value to previous data. This produces a linear calculus where answers are arrived at in a single XOR subtraction step. The data form coming in will be of more value to the model than any model as all the computational steps are known past the data entry point. They have been known for a long time. The next problem is that the brain has "ghost circuits." These are analogous to the old time "Cross Talk" functions in analog telephonic circuits. Unlike silicon and other circuits where great effort is made to produce separation of data and isolation of circuits, the brain operates because signals can and do quite intentionally affect adjacent computational results. This is a 3 dimensional space effect. Another reason that a map will not be of much value is that the circuitry is in a chemical bath that is altered by reaction sums. The result is another step in the computation by making relational conclusions.
If I haven't confused everyone by now, it isn't by lack of trying to be as simple as can be. The calculus is similar to slide rule operations. (Something forgotten today.) The other functions produce a structural ability for the circuitry to produce results even with highly error ridden data and with outright gaps in data. Data purity above about 17% is sufficient for nearly perfect operations. The unique feature of the data form is that it also allows data which is arrived at by completely type unrelated sensors to be applied to derive intelligent results. This means you can take the output of an ear and match it to a visual field and get useful data! The differential data structure also allows nearly infinite memory compression and use of broad band differential sums to control responses and a gross filter. You use this driving a car.
The basic problem we have in producing an analog to the brain in computers (Artificial Intelligence Type) is that we attempt to do with absolute value sensors what is being done with relative sensors. The result is that computations form a geometrically increasingly difficult solution set when differential data would have produced a linear solution set. To be plain this allows as little as 4 or 5 computational steps to arrive at a very intelligent solution when a googleplex of steps are required using absolute value processing with a lessor result.
There is also a sensor reality that is missing. All natural sensors are motor controlled to center point damping which is a time delay cancellation producing only differential data for output. None of our synthetic sensors do this function and it is why we do not get the results we want. It is really a pretty simple fact that if you want to reverse engineer something you should actually reverse engineer it. Mapping the brain will disclose logical circuits we already know exist and the results of their calculations. Only the data form will tell what is going on.
Renewable fuels suffer from several severe problems the green's don't want to see. The first is that farming is mining. Yes a farmer mines his soil. The process is exceptionally environmentally damaging. A typical farm loses about 5,000 or more pounds of material to erosion every year per acre. (Hectare conversion is approximately 5600 kg/hectare) The farmed items remove another 100 or so pounds per acre every year. The best soil recovery rates are below the 100 pounds per acre line.
All energy sourcing has problems including wind power. Wind power alters weather and precipitation. NOTHING is "clean" or nice like supposed by some.
Nuclear power emits trivial amounts of nuclear pollution generally and appears to have little other problems yet it causes massive thermal pollution. There is no free lunch here. Nuclear is probably the best we have in the currently available options list. Yes even solar has problems.
There are other options coming in the future but even the Zero Point energy is not without problems. Unlimited energy is an unlimited problem unless used wisely and within the confines of the system you work.
The best example of the damage of renewable fuels in current times is the Ethanol production of the USA. This has already caused a 3:1 rise in the cost of food for the poor of the world. This is causing massive damage to the environment as well. The USA can live independent of the world and with renewable fuels. The rest of the world may not be able to live with that solution.
For the advocates of coal, there is a serious problem. The Geology of Coal has made it a virtual Nuclear Waste Dump. A typical large coal fired power plant will send up the stacks in the soot radiation equal the that of a nuclear reactor's entire content every few years. There is no "Clean Coal."
The best suggestion is where possible to reduce demand by doing our work more efficiently. The demand situation of our grids says that we must end incandescent lights. The demand situation also demands the end of CRT computer and TV devices. The situation also demands the end of many other on going losses. The end of biodegradable items is one such change that must happen. Biodegradable was developed to cause more demand for oil products. It works. The demand situation demands attention to Automated Driving to reduce human behavior induced waste. This goes on and on. There are many good suggestions.
Finally attention must be paid to the causes of human population growth. Specifically the fact that tyranny and poverty cause population growth. Nations with freedom and prosperity do not over populate.
I want to pitch a little bit of history of the Bill of Rights in the US Constitution. It is critical to this discussion.
The Bill of Rights pushed by the "Anti-Federalists" led by Thomas Jefferson was never intended to give the government power nor was it intended to do anything other than provide a tripwire for the citizens to know the government was getting out of hand. It wasn't an enumeration of rights either. T. Jefferson saw the French Revolution supposed to be a copy of our own revolution going seriously wrong. He built this to prevent terror by the state. That is the reason pure and simple. It was to protect the people from terrorism of the worst kind.
Rather than being a beginner to terrorism as the press and President would have you believe the USA was forged in a sea of terrorism. Its right there in the Declaration of Independence if you want to read it. It happened in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama from 1810 to 1814 with tens of thousands killed. It happened in the Plains Indian Wars of the 1867 to 1885 period. It happened again in the West USA as late as after 1900! (I know my family was there!) Yes it was state sponsored. England Paid the bills. Yes it was religious extremist terrorists every time.
The USA is an ignorant fool if it thinks that giving up its right will make it safe. These rights including the right to be armed are essential rights. Just like removing the quills from a porcupine does not make it safer or protect its rights, removing the rights of people does not make them safe or protect them. Just as a quill free porcupine is now at risk of all terrors people without their rights are the same. As nobody makes a business of kicking porcupines nobody makes a business of picking on a well armed and well defended people who defend their rights.
Today we in the USA see ourselves threatened on every side by a terrorism of the State which is using Al Quada as a mafia enforcer to extract about a trillion dollars in stolen money from the American People each year as a result of this protection racket. This engine of terrorism comes up with new threats every appropriations season in congress. This terrorism by the state has broken our currency stealing more than 1/3 of the value of everything in the USA. It has broken our armed forces in the world and threatens to sink the entire world into a new reign of terror such as has never been seen. All of this is in the name of the "Patriot Act". Why on earth do lies like this one get said. He supported a monument being posted. However; nothing of the sort of this judge being a bigot is real. I know Judge Moore. A kinder more gentleman I have not known, especially in political affairs. He is a most decent man.
I wonder how many more lies are going to be posted to /. and how many more moderators will call it troll or something like that. The simple fact is that Ron Paul is a decent man who holds a strong position set in defense of the USA and its Constitution.
If you are listening, it typically does not rain very much in August, September and October in Alabama. By November the rain fall is usually a bit higher but typically our "Dry Season" begins in late June and ends about the end of October. Typical rainfall in North Alabama is about 55 inches a year give or take a few inches. Most of this falls in the period from January through May with no true dry season but it gets pretty dry here.
I just dug a pond because the best time to dig is when it is dry. The soil for 3 feet down was powder dry. After 3 feet the material largely clay became wet enough to stick together and not make dust. By 6 feet it was able to be compressed into molded shapes like potters clay. At 8 feet it was mud. When I added water (I have a very good well) the pond held water and I have begun slowly filling it. The well is MSL 680 at the top and the pump is at MSL 555. The Wheeler Res., about 15 miles distant is MSL 618 +/- a few feet.
I am making no great effort to fill the pond adding water only 2 or 3 hours a day. It is progressing. The pond will hold about 400,000 gallons when filled. The problem with the Tennessee River is that it is a "cap rock" stream having surges of flow when it rains. My area in North Alabama is actually a lake of considerable depth. This lake formed as a result of the washout of 5 big lakes in the Chattanooga Tn region in recent geologic history. This formed all of the structure of soil chert and clay for varied depths up to about 100 feet in my area. Currently the lake is stuffed with chert and clay but the lake is very much there with lots of water in it. It doesn't flow much.
