GTA: San Andreas Radio and Soundtrack

crashnbur writes "Rockstar has updated their Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas web site with new information about the game's soundtrack and the in-game radio stations! Two versions of the soundtrack will be available Nov. 23 -- one 2-disc set of selected tracks, and the massive 8-disc boxed set! Rumor has it we'll hear in-game news and weather breaks just like real radio. Audio samples are available on the web site, and a full track listing is expected this Monday, October 18. But no word yet on Lazlow..."

      Well, the game is based in the early 90s. Seeing as Maron 5's first album was in 2002, I'm going to go out on a limb and say no.

      Well.. it is a little pricey to license a bunch of popular songs for a game. I think I remember reading a blurb about Vice City that said they spent a significant amount of money on the tracks in that game. I got the impression that it isn't typically a developer's first choice.

      Can you please tell me how you even found this info? All I get is this damn flash animation that wants me to click around a map - I'm at work, so I just wanted to view the soundtrack info, and I've already wasted 15 minutes navigating to a tanker that has chinese connections.

      Radiohead's "Creep" is going to be in GTA San Andres and refered to as a "one hit wonder". Also rumoured is The Stone Roses "Fools Gold". Looks to be a great soundtrack.

    Chatterbox in GTA3 was very funny, but the talk stations in VC were completely unfunny and obnoxious. Maybe they thought that being more over the top would be funnier?

      I disagree, some of the chats I found hilarious, and for the most part, it was stuff that was similar to things I'd heard on real radio... maybe not for everyone, but I loved it =)

      Lazlow certainly made the radio stations "work."

      Popularity over his talk radio gig on GTA3 ("Chatterbox") has reached the point where life is imitating art. Just the other day, I heard him giving a tech news report on the Fox News station on XM radio...

      I don't necessarily care if Lazlow is on a rock or talk station, but give the guy a job on the radio already!

      I liked the commercials they played. I think it was on one of the music stations, inbetween songs. Ads for the Zaibatsu Mnstrosity were hillarious.

      No, they just had to work with 80s humor. Remember: 80s music is okay, 80s TV is tolerable, 80s humor is outdated and boring.

    It's obvious now that a good soundtrack does probably more for a game than good graphics. Everyone knows that the gfx won't be much better in terms of tech c/t Vice City as the PS2 has been pushed about as far as it can.

    So it's a refreshing change that the hype around GTA: SA is about it's music and not that it has 6 trillion teraquads of polymorphic bitmaps.

      Actually the game looks quite a bit better than 3 and vice did on ps2. They look better than the Xbox versions (with reflections on carhoods and whatnot).

      Neither the graphics or the soundtrack are what the hypes about. It's the gameplay.

      actually it's nice to see that the stations will be dynamic rather than just looping. Although I did like the fact that I knew what the next song would be in VC, having a more real feel is nice.

      Um, there's a new graphics engine, much more detailed and accurate effects, and... just prettier stuff. The good thing about GTA:SA is that the game is so mind-bogglingly huge, while being essentially an updated version of two previous games, that it's impossible to focus the hype on anything. It's the same style game with more gameplay options, better music, and enhanced graphics... just to hit the general hot spots.

      Something tells me i'll have it tuned to Radio X for most of the game.

      It seems kind of odd- probably more people will be listening to some of these fake radio stations than listen to any single real station. If they could online enable it, they could download new songs and even have real paying advertisers, but not like they'd need that extra revenue, and better stick to funny parody ads...

      Definitely. Radio:X (modern rock) and KDST (classic rock) for me, plus the chat station that they have yet to reveal. It just makes me think Lazlow is the talk show host...

    Is it considered fair use to rip a copy of radio stations in the game to listen to it in my car? If its of the same quality as vice city's, its better than the crap in my area. The weather reports are probably just as acurate too ;-)

      They sold music CD's (boxed set) for the last 1 or 2 games.

      Also, the music is probably in some sort of mp3 format, at least on the PC version. The sound effects and voices are all wavs and mp3s, at least.

      In VC they were in some proprietary format, but someone put out a converter on the net to handle that.

      GTA3 didn't have an OST produced for it in terms of cds, but you can easily make one since everything is in wav or mp3 format.

    After playing BFV, I realized how much a soundtrack adds to the game. Listening to all the music in the game made me feel just like I was in Vietnam in the 60's.

AFI's put out six albums since 1995, and have just now started to garner quite a following. They're definitely more than a Britney Spears of punk music; sounds to me like you finally heard a song on the radio and jumped to conclusions. Shut the hell up next time.

    Man I can't wait to see the full track listing details. It probably seems a bit sad but the soundtrack listing is one part of the game that I was very interested in seeing and after having a listen to the sample radio stations I can't say I'm too disappointed!

    Hearing "Poison" be Bell Biv Devoe took me back a fair bit (and I'm a little embarrassed that after about 12 years I still know most of the words). Also thought RATM was interesting; what with hearing the DJ swear in the intro gives me hope that they won't put on some censored version of the song. Hope we get some NIN on there as well.

    Sounds like there are two stations that play funk/soul. which is nice (yay!).

    My biggest surprise was the KJAH reggae stations song "Chase the devil" by Max Romeo & The Upsetters. One of my fav songs. Couldn't believe my ears.

      I was hoping we would have a clasical station and a collage station (playing what back then was soon to be "alternative").Maybe also have an NPR sytle station thats always having a fund drive.

    ...It will kick ass. I have the boxed set from Vice City, and it is totally worth owning. Nothing better than having that "Living in Vice City" feel as you tool around in your shitty car, trying to drift corners and wishing you had a pair of Uzis.

    Imagine on the x-box they set it up so instead of listening to the radio off the dvd you can instead use your x-box live account to connect to streaming radio stations from Rockstar.

    The playlists could be massive, the talk stations could be updated and topical, they could have live radio events where people would play at a certian time and hear exclusive interviews and what have you..

    It would be a very unique use of XBL.

    Are you refering to GTA VC or GTA III? GTA VC had a box set, and from what I can tell GTA III did not have the soundtrack released on CD or in a box set.
