Premiere of The Strangerhood

ack154 writes "As previously mentioned here, the guys and girls over at Rooster Teeth Productions (the creators of Red vs Blue) have started a new series based on the Sims 2. As of last night, Episode 1 has officially hit the download servers. Currently available in DivX, WMP, and QuickTime formats, the first episode weighs in at just over 5 minutes. " As a big RvB fan, I'm looking forward to seeing where this one goes.

What ever happened to them using Bit Torrent? They get burned by the release of their hi-res vids or something? As a slashdot subscriber I couldn't even download the video's during the "Mysterious Future" period.

They're used to it... from one of the FAQs:
Q: Why aren't the videos bigger?
A: The videos are 320x240 to save bandwidth. Our first series, Red vs Blue regularly chewed up 170 Terrabytes of downloads in a month.

Agreed. Granted it's the first episode, but I hated everything from the Friends-like interstital music to the inspid white man as Mr. T attempt at comedy. It just wasn't funny, nor does it set up a good reason to watch further episodes. The writing is just... well, awful. It's not even up to My Mother The Car standards.

If it didn't have the "Rooster Teeth" name attached to it, I'd venture to say that most people wouldn't give this series another chance.

Speaking of which, I'm going to go watch a Venture Bros. episode to get the bad taste out of my head. I laugh at least once watching that which is more than can be said for the Strangerhood.

There is a solution: offer the d/l only as a .torrent at first, until popularity wanes. Then switch over to HTTP.

  12. Lip syncing still a problem by Japong · · Score: 5, Interesting

Just watched the first episode, and I have to say Halo was a good choice of game, because everyone was a master chief, with a full helmet on. Facial expressions and lip syncing were blissfully bipassed and we didn't really think much about it.

This new show doesn't seem to do so well, the Sims 2 probably has some of the most expressive characters for a popular video game, but they still seem to be a little off in matching up faces, expressions and voices... IANAprofessional commedian, but not having them synced makes comedic delivery of dialog far less effective, as those brilliantly funny moments don't hit all at the same time.
