New Apple iPod with Photo Capabilities
artlu was the first of many to submit: "I was just watching my Dow Jones streaming news wire, and I saw that Apple is releasing a new iPod that will have photo captabilities. The news stated that the new iPod will be able to hold 25,000 photos as well as your traditional iPod functionality." Apple's got a page up about the iPod Photo and of course a press release.

In the GNAA's continued effort to combat mindless idiocy, blogging, and bigoted oppression of gay nigger rights, GNAA member Penisbird has announced victory over mindless slashbot and blogger mbonig.
In true Hitlerian fashion, mbonig wanted to deny freedom speech to gay black men under the guise of his own nazi-esque values of censorship. "Gasgaynigs", mbonig was quoted as saying to a swooning crowd of neo-nazis ready for a golden shower of his drivel.
GNAA member Penisbird, who is considered of one of the most gifted and intelligent members, according to the GNAT or Gay Nigger Aptitude Test, excellently crafted his arguments against the nazi, as shown here, and was able to counter every point with concise and irrefutable facts. In the usual Slashdot hypocrisy, anyone who fights for the legitimate rights of the unpopular is considered a troll and this thread was no different.
The tragic defeat on Slashdot forced mbonig to retreat to his blog and admit that the GNAA's posts are free speech (unlike what he said earlier) while at the same time slandering Penisbird's impeccable character. Penisbird does not tolerate such insolence and proceeded to attack his wretched blog.
In the most skilled fashion, Penisbird proceeded to flood his blog as a form of legitimate protest. Like an relentless flood of nigger cocks, Mbonig (which is an intentional slur against niggers) tried to squelch the massive flood of protest posts by deleting hundreds of comments but could not keep up. His next step was to disable commenting for a couple of days. The very morning he restored comments and declared that by requiring logins, the attacks would cease. Wrong. Penisbird was on the attack and continued the assault.
After the morning offensive, mbonig quickly and embarrassingly disabled comments, declaring that "script kiddies" (the scripts in question consist of Microsoft Internet Explorer and the refresh button) do not deserve the same free speech rights he enjoys. However, Penisbird was victorious in that he caused mbonig to permanently disable comments. Penisbird vows to keep up the assault on his Slashdot posts and anywhere else he tries to oppress free speech rights online.
mbonig claims that he is not hiding who he is. Really? What is your last name? Where do you live? Oh, it seems that you are hiding who you are. Hypocrite.

I'm not trolling here... it is simply stunning how with one simple click of a "YES" button you can lose your entire music library. I didn't agree to let iTunes WIPE my iPod. I agreed to let it re-home to my new user's music folder. What if I had loaded MP3s from my other computer? Would those be toast too?
It's a BAD design element, something they need to correct. And... if I am on an authorized computer... logging into iTMS with my "authorized" account... why shouldn't I be able to download my songs anew? It doesn't make it any less secure against people burning just their 10 CD limit. I could download a new album, copy it to several authorized PCs, and burn 10 copies from EACH workstation. Why restrict downloads to just one?

Yes, the Archos lets you watch xvid/divx movies on it, but I'm willing to bet they don't include a DVD ripper. So this is a niche product where they assume the buyers know how to get xvid movies (or rip them themselves instead of sucking them via P2P).
Well done. You have a rock solid argument that may well be the exact reason for lack of this functionality. But that doesn't fix the fact that the functionality isn't there. I can give you a bunch of good reasons why a skateboard is better than a car (fresh air, exercise, fun, etc) but none of that hot air is gonna get someone to pay me more for my skateboard than a a good auto.
The fact is that this thing has a smallish screen that doesn't play video and isn't a very big improvement for photos over the screen built directly into your camera or camera phone. I'd get much better milage with a Palm or Pocket PC if I wanted to show photos, play games, or do almost anything else this color screen might help me do.
The real fact of the matter is this is just a nice music player with a good color screen instead of the old black and white one. Calling it a "photo player" does not and will not justify the extra $$$$. IMO they'd get more milage just calling it what it is.... a color iPod.

.ogg support on iPods. Ooops. No. That would interfere with Apple's attempt to control the standard music format and force-feed DRM to users.
iPods have hard drives, ergo iPods can hold photos too.
If the OS were open, like say if the iPod ran on GNU/Linux, someone would have created a picture-viewing application for their iPod over a year ago.
It's only because the software on the iPod is closed up that we have to wait patiently and salivate as Apple releases each tiny incremental feature-improvement. The same improvements that would have been made freely available a long time ago with open code.
