  1. Re:As a option......... on Boxee Box Matures; Another Look At the Platform · · Score: 1

I followed this path and found a very significant problem with it. As probably most other geeks out there, I put the computer together and put Linux on it. And then I discovered that Linux doesn't have Netflix and Vudu. And this is not likely to change in near future, due to Microsoft DRM technologies used in those. For a HTPC, it's a very significant downsize. So now I'm faced with a choice of putting Windows on it (ugh), or shelling out for a Mac Mini, which will be twice as expensive at half the firepower. In retrospect, I should've just gotten a Boxee Box with an external hard drive.

  3. This is ridiculous on New York City Street Lights To Go LED · · Score: 1

This is just great. In NYC right now, they're cutting the city budget, implementing a whole slew of new taxes (taxing Itunes store purchases?), cutting subway service (while hiking the rates)... and what are they spending the money on? That's right, replacing street lights with LED bulbs. Aren't there a little more important things to worry about/spend money on right now?

  8. That would be GREAT! on FCC Moves To Regulate Cable TV Competition · · Score: 1

Here in NYC, the cable companies have created a laughable charade to resemble "competition". It works like this: Time Warner and Cablevision have split the city into various districts. Depending on where you live, you can ONLY get either TW or Cablevision. They have exactly the same prices, too!

The only alternative is to get Dish Network.. which is problematic if you live in an apartment. This is total B.S. and I'm glad the FCC is finally doing something about it.

And by "do" I mean "draw with the turtle, of course" :-D For example, check out this gallery: http://www.ajlogo.com/gallery/

  14. How is this news? on Users Being Migrated To New Version of Hotmail · · Score: 2, Interesting
First of all, how is this news? I did this about a year ago.

Now, I've been a hotmail user since early 1997. I switched to Gmail when it came out, but kept my Hotmail account for sentimental purposes. A few months back though, I finally completely gave up on it.

20 million feedbacks? Ha! Most likely, they haven't read any of it - and certainly haven't read mine. I wrote them about the maddening lack of 'Check all' function, and the fact that when you start checking emails one by one, if you miss by a few pixels - it will select that one email, and lose all your other selections.

This pretty much makes Live Hotmail completely unusable to anyone who needs to delete a bunch of spam emails (and with Hotmail, you get a LOT of spam.)

At least it sounded good in theory - Gmail is still far behind Outlook, imho. And when somebody makes GOOD web-based Outlook, I'll be sold.

  15. At least you didn't put in a wrong age... on Gmail Becomes Google Mail in the UK · · Score: 1

My dad put his age as 13 when he signed up for exactly the same reason - he didn't think it was any of Microsoft's business to know how old he was. Lo and behold, he now needed parental permission to anything! Of course, changing his age to the real one didn't work. I don't remember exactly what he did to change it, but it wasn't easy.
