Robbers Scared by GTA

HellSpam writes "Some robbers tried to burglarize a poor old lady and her 3 grandsons. Her grandsons happened to be playing Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas, and the sounds of the police from the game scared them away! From the article: "The police in the game were saying, 'Stop, we have you surrounded. This is the police.' The burglar, unknowingly, thought this was the actual police and panicked ... being apprehended by PlayStation." Now, no more saying games are bad for you..."

I suspect there are a number of individuals on /. that also read Fark. There seems to be a fair amount of overlap between the two sites, as anything remotely geeky ends up on both pages in short order.

Funny, of course. It is disturbing that the moderators thought I was making fun of the homosexuals by my casual use of the word gay. Does it have such a negative connotation?

Now I, Distortion of Distortionfile.com, am an avvid gamer. I spend what ever time I'm not working, playing ultra violent video games. I feel that these games to affect my agressivness, and violent tendancies. This does not mean I can't control those emotions, simply that they exist. Now, what those robbers where doing, isn't that basically the whole point of GTA? If playing a game like GTA can make you grow violent, theres a chance it can make you perform crimes. What if these robbers played GTA a few hours before commiting this crime? I'm not in any way trying to blame games for violent behavior, just stating that a game as violence and crime driven as GTA is (after all, those sirens and police do mean you are killing innocent people) may be potentially damaging to minds which are too young for the content. I call the parents to make sure immature children are not playing this game and getting the wrong idea about things. I'm sure they know it's just a game, but do they know that their a bad guy? Do they understand that this character lives outside the law at all times, and will never be a bonafied citizen again? Hell know they don't know it! They would understand it if they did! That's why parental advisories have the word parent in there, as in, their responsability, right? ~Distortion
