2004 Indie Games of the Year

cyrus_zuo writes "For all those who think that the best games that came out this year were all sequels Game Tunnel presents a different angle on things with their 2004 Independent Game of the Year awards. For those who believe that the best game this year was that badly named expansion pack that they have the nerve to call Halo 2, check out the awards for a different side of gaming than you are used to."

Anyone that thinks that Halo 2 sucks or was just an overpriced expansion pack for the original Halo knows nothing of gaming. Your anti Microsoft rants have now risen to a point where you can not enjoy one of the best games ever released. It is one of a handful of games I played non-stop and I have a bit of gaming under my belt. I have been a gamer since the early 70's and own every home system ever made. I own 10 full size arcade machines, 2 pinballs, and 1 MAME conversion. I have OSX, XP and Linux PC's on my home network and owe allegiance to none of them but use the best features of each. I overlook most of Slashdot's anti Microsoft threads but this was just a blatant stupid, ill informed statement. This person obviously never played Halo 2 (or Halo 1 for that matter) and is just pontificating their anti-Microsoft agenda.

If you're running *Mandrake*, you don't count as running Linux. Same goes for Knoppix and its spawn.

    Get a real OS, sissy.

I saw the hype surrounding Halo 1. According to those fanboys it was the greatest game of all times.
Usually I don't fall into hypes, but such a huge hype made me interested in Halo. Hey, it must be good, if every Xbox owner says it's great, right?
Well, last year I finally had the chance to play it. Gawd, I was so bored, I couldn't even believe! This crap should be the king of all games?!?
Quake 1 is way more fun than Halo 1... not to mention Half-Life 1 and both games are older than Halo.

    Now Halo 2.....
Wow, the hype is even bigger. But this time I don't fall into the hype. Halo 1 was overhyped and Halo 2 is likely to be overhyped as well.
From what I've read, Halo 2 isn't really that different from Halo 1 and I also read that Halo 2 is too short.
So Halo 2 does not have many new features and is short. IMHO these are 2 aspects of a cheapo mission pack.

Canada has given over 53million$CAN to the cause and they are the first one to recommend to the group of Paris to not reduced but to place a moratorium on the debt of those countries so as to help further, as far as Canada is concerned it's moratorium takes effect immediately (cause we are actually limited in fund we do what we can, we don't give money we don't have (US) and try to block aid efforts done by the UN so as to take the spotlight (US), this is not a popularity contest this is the single worst display of nature's rage I've seen in my life and as usual US is using this to display its incredible arrogance and self-centered attitude, what a fuckin lame nation...).

The reason the comment was allowed in the submission is because Slashdot's editors are trolls now who stir up controversy to get page hits for their OSTG advertisements. What better way to do it than stick a backhanded insult to Microsoft (because they bought Bungie, which made Halo 2).

People are beginning to see through the Slashdot schtick. This website used to be a lot better (and a lot more accurate and detailed with its tech stories). It's turned into an ad-buying cesspool trying to woo subscribers now, posting generic flamebait intended to stir up the geek fanbase that reads it (here's a bash-SCO article...here's a bash-RIAA article...here's a praise-Linus article...here's a bash-Microsoft article).

Remember when Slashdot was on the forefront of online tech news? Now we get posts about 2004's indie games, complete with pointless Halo 2 flamebait (maybe there are readers here who enjoy the game?).
