Galactic Conquest Final Version Released

gonzoxl5 writes "The final verison of the excellent Star Wars Galactic Conquest mod for Battlefield 1942 has been released. This is the final release of Galactic-Conquest before the mod team (Prolific Games) moves onto a new and currently undisclosed project. A fantastic mod with over 60 vehicles and a host of maps from the Star Wars universe, this total conversion of the BF1942 engine plays better than most 'offical' star wars titles.

what amazes me is what people can do to modify one game into something completely different. I don't know how many of the Starcraft mods actually completed way back when, but there was a Star Trek one that I'd still love to see to completion.

I haven't even played Battlefield 1942 before, but from looking at the Star Wars mod on top of it, man, this might be something I'd want to check out! The whole thing looks fantastic.

PC Zone recently reviewed the R4 version of the mod, they gave it 85% and a PC Zone essential rating (two pages in the mag after they gave the SWG Jump To Lightspeed expansion 71%).

The nice thing about this mod is that its not just replacing models and maps, its been built by a talented and committed team that know their subject matter really well (the project director recent won a major prize in the Atom Films SW fan film contest btw), the result is that this mod plays and feels like Star Wars.

I, honestly, found it dull, boring, and slow (not laggy slow, but just a slow game). Not only that, but you rarely can find an active server with more than 10 people on it.

Compared with other bf1942 mods (Desert Combat), this one is just flat out dull.

if you consider it slow then thats your own personal opinion, however I'd disagree with your findings in terms of playabel servers.

The lowest concurrent player count that I've ever seenw ith GC is around 35, with there always being at least 20 people on the AGSN server and at least 10 on the NOC server (both findable easily via ASE).

Since the 0.5 release the concurrent player count hasn't been below 250 and there have been ovr 150,000 downloads (of this release) already from the major mirrors so you'd certainly have no problems finding a well populated server at the moment.
