Norway Considers New Copyright Laws

bizpile writes "The Norwegian government is considering a change to copyright laws that would make it illegal to rip a CD to MP3s when copy protection is in place on the CD. However, you would still be allowed to copy from one CD to another regardless of copy protection. Gisle Hannemyr, of the University of Oslo's Department of Informatics, responded by saying "We are going to be a nation of lawbreakers if this law is passed in its current form." The new proposal would allow fines and a maximum penalty of three years in prison for violating copyrights and engaging in computer piracy."

You buy a dull sword -- Legal.
You buy a sword sharpener -- Legal.
You sharpen the sword to the point where its a concealed weapon and you're breaking the law?

This made me think - is it legal to carry a battle-ready sword openly in public ? I mean, at least in the USA you can carry firearms, so why not swords ?

Imagine walking around wearing a shining, polished chainmail, a shield tied to your arm, and a horned helmet, with and your other hand constantly hovering near the sword-pommel :)...

If you could make the chainmail and helmet bulletproof (against handgun or at least pistol fire - could this be done with modern materials ?), you would be pretty well armed and protected, actually. Of course you'd need to be able to use a sword, too...

If you could pulletproof your armor, would we start seeing duels at dawn ?-) Or would you be better of building some of those power armors from anime ?

Of course, if you put motors to the armor, you can as well go all the way and enhance the weapon, too. "Wall-Mart hydraulic maces, when you need to shatter concrete with a single strike!"

And mounts - "In the past, what made the knight was his warhorse. That's why Harley-Davidson is bringing out a new line of products, to serve the modern knight as his faithfull warmount. Harley-Davidson - the difference between a knight and a knave."
