Canadian Privacy Law v. E-Mail Harvesting
sbowles writes "Canada's Privacy Commisioner has ruled that a business e-mail address is personal information protected under the federal privacy legislation (PIPEDA). Law professor Michael Geist (a leading e-commerce and privacy law expert) received an unsolicited request to buy seasons tickets from the local football team. His e-mail address had been harvested from a University website. The ruling indicated that 'You are allowed to collect and use publicly available information, but the use has to be directly related to the purpose for which the information appears in a directory or notice.'"
What's to be expected when you randomly give out contact information online? It's a public domain, anyone who chooses to can contact you wether or not it's against the law. If you don't want to deal with it, don't put it out in the first place.
I don't not believe there isn't a God.
there is plenty of decent ways to avoid all spam, if you get spam i have no sympathy for you
Please don't participate in any more conversations until you finish learning the English language.
You have common sense in the USA. In Canada we have common sense as well, our's just costs a lot more. Usually in the form of massive taxation and never getting anything done.
Om, nomnomnom...
manners? what is this thing which you speak of you stupid moose humping tree hugger with your bad teeth, and mayonaise french fry eating ways.
I mod down so you can mod up. Your welcome.
Peaceful?? They just bombed the shit out of Afghanistan and Iraq, and they're looking for any old excuse to do the same with Iran and North Korea!! Sure, some American individuals may not like war, but the way they chose their government leads to these wars. When they move up here, they bring with them the same fucked-up ideology and spread it like a disease.
And who cares what language they speak?? We've inherited a lot more positive stuff from non-English-speaking immigrants than Americans. Where I live we have tons of festivals, restaurants, and architecture inspired by other cultures, none of them English-speaking. What have Americans given us? "Money, money, money"?!
Americans are hell-bent on imposing their screwed-up way of life on the entire world, and if they immigrate here en masse, they will screw-up Canada. Just say no to the American cancer.
