Apple Updates Pro Media Apps
macguys writes "Apple Computer has released updates to its media Pro applications. Among the new software released are upgrades to Final Cut Pro, Soundtrack (now called Soundtrack Pro), DVD Studio Pro, Motion and Shake. A bundle of all the new applications (except Shake) is available under the name Final Cut Studio."
That was a capital P "Power" - as in Power Mac.
Last year at the NAB, Apple followed the Sunday softweare intors with Monday hardware intros. Let's all hope Think Secret is right.
They are predicting Dual G5 configurations from 2.0 to 2.7 GHz in the Power Macs and iMacs from 1.8 to 2Ghz.
They go on to predict Super Drives replaced with Dual layer support, better graphics cards in the iMacs, 512MB RAM standard on all models (as well as Tiger/iLife)
What they do not know is if Apple with drop the dual core bomb, giving us four cores in a Dual processor Power Mac.
Quite frankly, with Tiger and Final Cut Studio, the 17" Power Book will continue to hodl the top spot for Professional editing on the go.
I only came here to do two things; kick some ass, and drink some beer...looks like we're almost out of beer.
Uhh, It's now Final Cut Pro 5, not Pro HD (4), DVD Studio Pro 4, not 3. Soundtrack Pro (previously only sound track, I think that's now relegated to Final Cut Express), and Motion 2. These are MAJOR apps, and there are lots of people who they matter to. Complaining this gets mentioned on Slashdot along with "Random thing dealing with Robots or Google" is hardly mature. You're getting mad that Slashdot is reporting on the release of Apple's flag ship OS and flag ship video editing apps, just wait till Slashdot reports that Apple soon will be updating their flag ship pro desktops!
So, turn off Apple stories! Or don't display them all on your front page! That seems more effective than whining about your "fears".
my momma said never respond to anonymous cowards, but here goes: first off, if you're copying a file from one folder to another, on os x (don't know about the darwin part) it is simply linked. if it's copying from a disk image or from a removable drive, it takes a few seconds to copy a 17mb file, and you can do anything in the background. you're simply full of crap to say it takes 20 minutes. now, if it has trouble reading the file, or it is corrupt ot something, that's another story.
My problem? I was perfectly gruntled, until some numbnuts came by and dissed me.
Your mom was a smart lady; you should listen to her. This is a pretty old troll, it's just not funny anymore; similar to the '[blank] is dying' or 'in soviet russia...' memes.
There's a lot funnier trolls they could have made.
This seems like a kind of unusual thing for Apple, but they're also offering a 30-day free trial of Motion 1.0. It's not the new version, but for people that wonder what Motion can do, or bored Slashdorks, it should be interesting.
Note: it requires a system with a fairly recent video card.
Don't become a regular here -- you will become retarded.
Actually, to any machine. I use my iBook G4 and squeeze a little more processing power out.
Shop as usual. And avoid panic buying.
Logic Pro just got bumped to 7.1, with some fixes and a few new features.
Shop as usual. And avoid panic buying.
Uhh, my anti-apple bias? You're kidding, right? I'm typing this from a PowerBook and this is my fifth Apple computer in the past decade. I love Apple Computers. Steve Wozniak is the Geek God. Steve Jobs is inspirational. The Apple II was so great it made men weep with joy. Macs are great, that's why I keep buying them. I'm personally responsible for several PC -> Mac conversions; people ask me which computer to buy and I tell them "a Mac".
Now, Apple fanboys, that's something I really hate. This thread has been the perfect example of everything I hate about you guys. I point out how useless these "Minor Upgrade to Existing Apple Software" stories are, and I get accusations that I'm "anti-apple". Remove your fanboy chips from those lumps of meat you laughably call your brains, because they're affecting your ability to think.
ok i appoligise for that , but its early and i needed a coffe ;). .
:P , this doesnt make me a fanboi it makes me someone with a vested intrest. ... made a product update announcement instead of staying quiet about it ,and slashdot editors though alot of folks here would find use for the info and we did .
.
For your info im not an apple fanboy , i am a if anything a GPL fanatic and will take happily take a ripping about that , but most definantly i do apreciate apple designed computers and products. personaly i found this info usefull as i use one of those products . and i dont apreciate someone comming along blabering some nonsence about me being a fanboi because i found it usefull, and i definantly dont need no "OH NO slashdot is turing into some blah" posts
Honestly , And yes i also found the kernel news intresting
Being a fanboi involves finding no fault with anything X does.
So what have apple done wrong here
Just because we get pissed off being insulted by people does not make us fanboys.
You know the blade points both ways , alot of people who are sick of fanbois tar everyone with the same brush and i could easily call them "*Haters".
If apple do something wrong ala that thinksecret lawsuit i will shout about it , if RMS screws up i will shout about it , if slashdot posts an obvious dupe i will speak out , if any of them do something right then i will read and enjoy reading it . and if people tell me there is something wrong with me for finding it usefull then i will tell them where to shove it
The only things certain in war are Propaganda and Death. You can never be sure which is which though
This is actually a major upgrade in Final Cut Pro and the other applications. There is multi-camera support, which is one of the most-requested features from FCP users. There is (finally!) support in FCP for that cool camera Steve was waving around at the keynote in January. There is a new audio editing application that looks like it's the answer to many people's prayers.
I suppose if news for nerds is just news for Linux kernel developers, you might have a point that this shouldn't be covered. But there's an Apple section on this site, and this happens to be major news to those Mac users, such as myself, who are heavily involved in the world of content creation.
You shouldn't feel an obligation to click on and read a story because it's there. Understand that there are people for whom this is a genuinely big deal, and go on to the next story.
Nothing wrong with that.

You're not getting a G5 PowerBook by June. Have you seen the heatsinks in the G5 towers? We'll need new CPUs with smaller dies before that will happen, and those are still at the rumor stage.
And, btw, why? As was discussed when Tiger was announced, what does a 970 get you? You won't use 64bit in a portable, as there aren't enough ram slots anyways. You'd be happier with a dual core "Freescale" G4--and those might happen a lot sooner.

Take a longer look at Compressor.app...that's what I use for all my automated video production needs. You can set-up droplets to change things like the video's frame size and the like plus it supports Applescript links. Nothing like getting an email on my cell phone when my files are done rendering.
Unless you want to use Motion, even the current PowerBooks will do (HD features require 1GHz or faster single or dual processors). So a 1.7 GHz dual-core G4 should be able to do it too.

To the guy who modded me down from perfect to terrible Karma - Apple haters still suck
