Isn't it true that this is a sequel to another CGI movie?

I hope the price of the US version is a little more reasonable (whole TV series usually cost $45).

This movie is not a sequel to the previous Square movie "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" but actually to a video game, Final Fantasy VII, originally released to the PlayStation.

Depending on what you choose to call FF7 (RPG, battle simulator, interactive movie) you can call it a sequel to a movie but most would call it the movie sequel to a game.

Actually at first there was mention not only would it be released on the PSP but it would ONLY be on the PSP. Obviously with the lackluster sales of it (and the fact that SE went out of its way to poll customers about FFVII AC and asked would they buy it on the PSP) told SE it wasnt a smart move even if Sony would have loved it.

Sony (or the gaming media) touted FFAC as one of the flagship titles for the PSP. All sources claimed it would appear on UMD as well as DVD but if it's DVD only now that might show declining confidence in the PSP. If Square-Enix decides the PSP isn't worth supporting many users will follow.

Sony even had PSPs on display at E3 last year showing the trailer for it.

Sort of. It was initially slated to be a 45 minute film that sort of embraced and extended the FFVII story, probably to get everything set up for FFVII part 2. Square decided to go ahead and make it feature length at some point. I'm happy they did. I hate RPG's and didn't care much for playing FFVII, but the story and characters were awesome and seeing them in a full length film will be sweet.
