Isn't it true that this is a sequel to another CGI movie?

I hope the price of the US version is a little more reasonable (whole TV series usually cost $45).

Depending on what you choose to call FF7 (RPG, battle simulator, interactive movie) you can call it a sequel to a movie but most would call it the movie sequel to a game.

Okay, I thought I had heard that this was a sequel to some other movie that followed the game, Final Fantasy 7.

      I guess I heard wrong.

Why is this is such a big deal? There has been no previous mention of Advent Rising hitting the PSP. What just because Square has released a ton of games for the PS2 that means all their content will be available on a Sony game device?

Actually at first there was mention not only would it be released on the PSP but it would ONLY be on the PSP. Obviously with the lackluster sales of it (and the fact that SE went out of its way to poll customers about FFVII AC and asked would they buy it on the PSP) told SE it wasnt a smart move even if Sony would have loved it.

(Advent Rising is something completely different)

Sony (or the gaming media) touted FFAC as one of the flagship titles for the PSP. All sources claimed it would appear on UMD as well as DVD but if it's DVD only now that might show declining confidence in the PSP. If Square-Enix decides the PSP isn't worth supporting many users will follow.

      Um, yes there has been.

Sony even had PSPs on display at E3 last year showing the trailer for it.

How you and the submitter missed all this is beyond me.

That's what it costs in Japan, where DVDs tend to cost the equivalent of around $40-$50. It'll be priced like a normal movie where it is released so $20-25 for America.

Still doesn't rule out the possibility of a UMD release later on. My understanding has always been that they'd do DVD before UMD anyways.

Which is taken from a recent news posting on rpgamer.com: http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q2-2005/051105a.html

If it turns out that it won't be coming out on UMD (at this point, I'm wondering if there's going to be extra features in that version to make it worthwhile to people), that could make an interesting change in the Sony/S-E partnership... Especially considering S-E's talk lately of Nintendo's Wireless plan and the hints at multiple DS titles aside from Hanjukuu Hero (while PSP is only seeing FF7:Crisis Core to date).

It's part of the "Compilation of Final Fantasy VII" which includes Advent Children, Before Crisis (Mobile Phone), Dirge of Cerberus (PS2) and Crisis Core (PSP).

They're all sequels/prequels (BC is a prequel... nothing has been said about CC yet) to FF7 although they seem to focus on certain characters or groups. So kinda like X-2, but not a "direct" sequel of sorts I guess.
