Metroid Prime Hunters Will Go Online

HarvardFrankenstein writes "A Nintendo press release confirms what many people have already speculated: the recent delay of the release of the Nintendo DS game, Metroid Prime Hunters, will give the developers time to implement support for the upcoming Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. From the release: 'Metroid Prime Hunters will launch in the first quarter of 2006, complete with access to Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's upcoming online gaming service. Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will debut before the end of the year with a Mario Kart® and an Animal Crossing® game, and will let players connect wirelessly with one another as easily as if they were sitting in the same room.' This is excellent news, as many people felt that the first person shooter would suffer heavily without online multiplayer support."

It was either in their plan from the begining or Nintendo is one of the few companies that really listens to their customers. Whatever the case may be, this is great news!

Anybody who thinks that any game would be delayed just for shits and giggles is being idiotic to begin with. I wouldn't pay much attention to them.

Me: But, but you said it would come out this last spring.

    Nintendo Rep: Excuse me, sir?

Me: Then, then you said it would be towards the end of August!

Nintendo Rep: Sir, what are you talking about?

Me: *SNIFF* Now, now you say Hunters won't be out till first quarter 2006?! Wha.... what have I done to upset you?

Nintendo Rep: Are you talking about Metroid Prime Hunters, sir?

Me: Was it because I never called after that night I finishing Wind Waker? Or is it because Metroid Prime 2 is still unfinished because I have been busy with work? I will do better!

Nintendo Rep: Bob, is that you? Stop screwing around.

Me: I PROMISE! Please, please, my DS and I are so lonely......

I mean seriously, Nintendo has to be one of the most trustworthy companies in the industry. Sure they've had some flops but they all have been something radically new/different or well intentioned.

Everyone was frothing at the mouth when the delays were published, but sometimes a delay is a good thing. Gamers are a pissy bunch to deal with, they whine and bitch about buggy unfinished games and they whine and bitch abut delay's to improve buggy incomplete games. I personally would rather put up with a delay or two to get a finished product instead of being a paying beta tester to struggle until patch after patch is released.

Seriously, Nintendo has the brass set to delay big titles to ensure that they are up to par, and even go beyond. More true gamers should be behind them and in their endeavor with the Revolution as they are truly the last company FOR gamers and focusing on gameplay and quality in hardware and software. I especially think that if they can make some form of development kit for free/low cost for the Revolution all the /.'ers will have finally found a geek friendly console and company.
