Halloween In Massive Space
Halloween is a great nerd holiday, and it extends into Massively Multiplayer Game space. Everquest Live is offering up a series of events from the Kithicor Forest to the Hafling village of Rivervale. EQ2 has trick or treating in the two major cities, as well as smaller quests elsewhere. World of Warcraft players can also trick or treat with Innkeepers to honor the holiday of Hallow's End. Fashion seems to be the primary motivator in Anarchy Online's holiday event, which allows you the chance to snag Halloween themed t-shirts. Guild Wars has the winners from a Halloween art contest, as well as some theming in-game. Finally, Final Fantasy XI's always terrific seasonal events continue with The Harvest Festival. FFXI and World of Warcraft specifically allows you the opportunity to dress your character as various monsters and characters. My priest made a great pirate. Arr!
I'm like... WOW! holiday EVE Online content!
:/
meh
Halloween in real life is always much more interesting then Halloween in some computer game.
I'd like to see what you all are doing in REAL life for Halloween.
Not just Geeky Gadgets for parties, but what cool stuff are you geeks making for youselves? High-tech, low-tech it doesn't matter.
I usually submit an article asking this question every Halloween, but the editors always reject the submission.
94% of Repubs and 21% of Dems voted to renew the Patriot Act
in anarchy we can turn into about 10 different kinds of spooky monsters that are actually mobs :) gotta love that
Is this news or something we all already knew? Did anybody read this and go, "Hmm, how interesting!" or did you just go, "Yeah I know, I play World of Warcraft."
/rasp
Alterations also occuring in DAoC, such as graphical changes to horses, players (in cities when a treat is purchased and eaten) and some backrounds (such as the moon).
My priest made a great pirate. Arr!
Yeah, an ass pirate.
Zonk, no one cares about this lameness going on in virtual worlds. And the people who do care (losers) have other sources to get this "news". Why are you posting all these lame "stories" on slashdot? Stop it already.
They have just laid off everybody but 6 employees.
when Starfleet uniform wearing slashdotters appear to be normal.
"Lack of technical competence coupled with the arrogance of power, as usual, leads to no good end."
At Kingdom of Loathing, we get to trick or treat four times a year.
Nice to see how calendar events play into these games, and I wonder if news events ever will. Seeding stories based on todays news... maybe a modern day IRL game will use real news as feed for dialogue and quests...
Could be funny, this is prior art, so no patents on "using up sources to seed live gameplay and dialogue" or anything daft.
One thing, what is "Hallow's End", is this WoW only thing? Or is All Hallow's Eve known by this as well? I say because a google of Hallow's End brought up WoW pages.
That is all

Also, MapleStory has a halloween quest going, where you kill zombies and ghosts to get candies, which you give to an NPC for a little pumpkin basket, which you can hold like a shield.
My hand touched her hand. Her hand touched her boob. By the transitive property, I got some boob! Algebra is awesome!
So how exactly do horde people in WoW dress-up for Halloween? As dwarves?
The Slashdot Limerick
Nerf ACs please!
Updates over the last two days have decorated Drokanr's Forge and Lion's Arch with Hallowe'en related things, there's a new collector that gives out Hallowe'en related items, and apparently something big will happen on the day, which sounds like it'll involve a big enemy. Not bad considering there's no subscription fee.
nerf advys please!!!!!!!!!!!
Nexus (nexustk.com) has this, that I've noticed so far:
Every half hour, you can say "Trick or treat" in the inn and receive a trick (such as forcing you to cast mass-vertigo, which makes the movement controls random for every player in the vicinity, including yourself) or a treat (such as a costume -- anything from a rabbit or fox to the Totem God/Dragon Chung-Ryong -- or a valuble item such as a Watermelon).
There's a new NPC in a graveyard south of Kugnae who asks for "the spirit's gifts". No one's gotten farther than that on this quest. We think the quest may be buggy. We think he may mean the six different items dropped by the ghosts which now wander throughout the entire game, but after getting all six items together, I've tried handing them to him, dropping them in front of him, mixing them together, and saying every phrase related to anything I could think of to him. As of 7 AM Central, nobody has a clue how to finish the Halloween Quest. I'm going to log back on shortly to check if it's been solved yet; I've completely run out of ideas.
Oh, and those ghosts. They are not aggro, but are almost impossible to kill (or rather, kill permanently) until you figure out the trick, and if you don't kill them properly, they will follow you wherever you go, even between servers. Every now and then you see some poor fool wander past with a cloud of ghosts after him, then he disappears. Poor fool, he doesn't know that the ghosts can teleport too... But at least they damage in percentages of your current health, so they won't ever kill you.
The barbershop can now give beards for around 15000 coins. For comparison, it costs 2k for a normal haircut. It's hard to benchmark against anything else, as almost every item in the game has degrees from a Sword of Power (given to every Warrior at level 5, can't sell to anyone for even one coin) to Flameblades (several million coins each) to the Chaos Blade (there's only one, which belongs to a player who's not selling.) My Military Fork cost 80k, and repairs cost at most 1k every time it gets low, so a beard for 15k seems excessive.
No one knows whether the beards will stay, so I'll wait till Monday or Tuesday before I waste money on one.
There are tons of rabbits in the inn, probably due to one "trick" which summons eight or nine rabbits around you.
For the record, I have no affiliation with KRU (publishers of Nexus). It's just the only MMO I play.
Don't thank God, thank a doctor!
I kept waiting to read what would be happening in the only space MMO I'm aware of. Are they doing anything?
You quitting proves that the karma kap worked. The most annoying of the whores shut up. --CmdrTaco
Nice thing about FFXIs event is that it very much takes on the childlike spirit of the holiday, you have to trade candy to get special treats which are items, this years big item is a pitchfork that when in costume makes you run 12% faster in towns.

isn't your question answered on the top of the page? Nerds? Nerds!
