This has been discussed many times: beastie will remain as the mascotte, but not as the logo.

What was wrong with the old one?

*sighs* Essentially the moronic end of chrisitianity protests against anything they associate with Satanism.

The beastie was deemed satanistic by some of these morons who proceeded to start protests against the BSDs, and even Apple.

    Here's an amusing annecdote

That has more to do with the photographer's lack of skill than Ceren's figure. The lens used was slightly wide-angle (probably a zoom, backed up to get her in head to foot while standing too close), the photo is taken at eye height by someone taller than Ceren (distorts perspective, making her head look bigger than it is), with direct, non-diffused on-camera flash (flatten features, but makes specular reflections exagerate her shape).

The things to do for a shot like this are:
    • Stand further back & use a longer lens
    • Shoot from her waist level for a head to toe standing shot, or her chest level for a head to waist shot
    • Use an off-camera flash or flash bracket, with a diffuser (could be as simple as a bounce flash with a card to pick up catchlights in her eyes)

On the flip side, the old logo (though fun) was terribly amateurish, and impeded taking the OS seriously.

Actually, beastie is still the mascot, and this new thing is the logo.
    From the competition home page:

Beastie will continue to represent the FreeBSD Project as our mascot. We won't kill Beastie. The closest logo-like thing that we have now is shown below, and we are looking for other options to be used like there. The new logo design may or may not include Beastie, or even a stylized representation. Again, Beastie is still alive!

Just because a media machine run by anorexic women and gay men tells you that curves aren't attractive, doesn't make it true.

Ceren may have put on weight but she is still gorgeous.

And no I don't watch that much Pokemon.

I figured as much. It's Digimon that uses the "-mon" suffix on the names of varieties. In Pokémon, you might get names such as "Beastie" (the mascot of *BSD) or "Flameon" (like #136 Flareon).

    Good job otherwise :)
