Kong Lives!
eToyChest is reporting that, if you play your cards right in the game version of the Kong film, King Kong might return home the end of the game. Apparently the designers thought people wouldn't want to play if they already knew the ending. From the article: "To unlock the alternate ending, players must complete the entire game and then go back and play through various maps and earn a total of 250,000 points. Other unlockable features include several Weta Digital concept art galleries, interviews with both Peter Jackson and Phillipa Boyens, an "old movie" filter, a King Kong theatrical trailer and more."

Not that this isn't neat or anything, but like, what? Who cares? Mod me as flamebait or whatever if you want, it just seems like choosing to report this out of all the game news out there is sort of odd. Where's the rationale for talking about this, instead of anything else?

If Kong works hard enough and lives long enough, he becomes another remade classic character and HE TAKES THEIR BULLETS!!1 in a cocaine-filled rage. Or maybe not, but it's still fun to think of a cokehead gorilla who likes blondes.

As such, it shouldn't have made the cut.
They should think about this for other games that are based on movies. For example, if you manage to score 500,000 points without going through any warp smokestacks, the Titanic doesn't sink. Or if you manage to kill everybody in Star Wars: Galaxies using only the force-grip-throw-off-a-cliff-or-into-a-wall thing you get to go back in time and slap George Lucas around so he leaves the movie industry directly after the release of Return of the Jedi to go live in a commune in Montana, sparing us horror of the Special Editions and the prequels.

I want to paly king kong pinball but the last time I saw it. It was not working. Some one needs to get a rom dump from it so it can be play in VP + VPINMAME
It's good to see developers taking their own decisions, games that allow your actions to chose the endings are some of the best. It makes it a lot more interesting when a decision you make early on in the game effects it a lot later on and means that the game has a lot more appeal to replay it through a couple of times finding the different endings and more.
Good job to the developers on this one.

Okay, but this one sounds more like a "get 40 rebounds in a game and you unlock Wilt Chamberlain's shoes" perk from an NBA game to me. I agree with you, what you're describing sounds nice, but games mostly make it happen based on some arbitrary point total or something. (Those 250,000 points mean nothing to me playing as Kong. I want a big banana -- hey, maybe that commuter train.)
When things like that happen organically, that's when it works great. The whole open world thing from GTA got its appeal because it seemed to go a little that way, but really it's not a generational thing. Some pretty old school games like Escape Velocity (a flat-screen space RPG, sort of) and the old Fallout series manage to give you real influence over how things occur, and have endless subplots and quests that affect each other, and character traits that affect whether you can get the different branches.
Probably it has to be a basic design choice for this to work well. Otherwise it's just this sort of patched-on, alternate ending deal... Go back home? What about the one where he sticks with the program and becomes a big Broadway hit, touring with the Rockettes in his dotage?
