New Fatal1ty Gaming Mouse
steven williamson writes to tell us that Hexus has a quick look at Jonathan 'Fatal1ty' Wendel's approach to a new gaming mouse. At first glace it doesn't seem to have much to offer beyond your average optical mouse. A few of the features are a "four finger" setup with regards to mouse buttons, a mere 1600 DPI but that should be plenty for most, and an exchangeable weight to give it just the right heft.
Seriosly what's with all the advertisments posing as stories? The admins might as well put up pop-up ads instead of having them pose as stories.

Ok, this is just pathetic. Not only is this "review" an advertisement -- it even fucking says it right under the headline!!!!!
Right there in a graphic "Advertisement".
News for nerds, my ass.
This mouse was clearly not designed to be used equally with both hands... if you're left handed, it's going to be a bitch to use. (Correction, if you use your mouse with your left hand, it's going to be a bitch to use.)
I am unamerican, and proud of it!
Welcome to /vertisement...
Close-ups of a dusty mouse covered in greasy fingerprints don't present very well; if Creative knew about the review beforehand, they should clue in and not let a gaming site do their marketing.
The reflection from the camera's flash is a nice touch, too. GJ, Hexus.
This is probably /. suicide, but my IntelliMouse Optical does the job perfectly. Two side buttons, left and right click, and a clickable roller. It even works on sandwiches.
If you find yourself needing a 6 buttoned, a 4-way roller equipped, tilt sensor loaded, dual laser surface scanning, custom weighted hand cooling mouse then you are taking it too seriously.
How many people can read hex if only you and dead people can read hex?
"Which begs the question: Do we really want to buy a mouse named after someone who loses games? "
Everyone loses games, especially in FPS games, no one wins consistently 100% of the time. When I used to play quake and other FPS games on the ladders you had to practice all the f'n time to keep up and people traded wins back and forth when you're very competitive you'll win and lose because the competition is so good.
How would it help you switch weapons? What endless possiblities with the buttons? By the looks of it, or what I can gleam off the weak article, it has adjustable weight (how hard is it to control a mouse, really?), a fourth button somewhere (there's a little red thing on the left side, but the article describes a button high and to the right), and a scroll wheel.
Other than the weight changing, which I doubt is worth the high price tag that this is likely to earn, this mouse has nothing special going for it. Take the 5+ year old Intellimouse Optical that I'm using, which was one of the first optical mice that didn't require a special mousepad. It has a clicking scroll wheel, and buttons on the left and right sides which are large and easy to press. That's five buttons and a scroll. The endless possilbities!
Honestly, I don't have a clue about what the parent is on about, or the point of this article at all.
Amen. I bought mine for like $15 new. I've never had issues with it; it feels great in my hand. And if you need a ton of buttons to click on the mouse; you need to start learning to use your LEFT hand :)
Being ambidextrous is a big advantage in many things... though most "professional" gamers are pimply-faced 18 year old kids that weigh 120lbs with 9inch arms (though their right forearm is much larger than the left! I wonder why!??!?)
Time to burn some karma of my own...
I see there are quite a few "as a gamer" and "as a hardcore gamer" and even a bit of "I play games and..."
Here's my take on it:
I don't see a purpose to this mouse. Honestly, you can fit as many buttons in certain places as you want to, but it won't change a goddamn thing. Take a look at your Numpad. Do you honestly use those numbers while playing the game to switch between weapons or select a choice of a menu? As far as I know a lot of gamers use the keyboard. The standard is a 2 button + 1 wheel mouse, and people don't complain.
Then you have those keyboards that are specifically made for games, like WoW, Call of Duty 2, et cetera. Once again, it's pointless. A regular keyboard does the job as well as that one. You position a few buttons elsewhere to allow leverage, but it doesn't alter the skill of the person, it simply changes the positioning of their hands; their fingers move in an almost exact way as a regular keyboard (noting WASD config).
I expect them to come out with something like: "You'll get better if you play with this mouse!" or some advertising crap like that. I guess the proper way to put it would be: Just because it suits one person, doesn't mean it suits the rest. I'll stick with my 2 button + 1 wheel optical mouse. It does the job.
I think fatal1ty is going way over the top with this one. The t-shirts, the accessories, now the mouse? Come on. Ah well, every dog has his day.
I'll am awaiting someone with a bit more leverage like John Carmack, Chris Taylor or even Bruce Shelly to complain about something regarding computers... THEN I'll be impressed.
Particularly since the ad/article makes such a big deal about the button placement and then fails to supply a single photo that clearly depicts where the right side button is.
