Precision Mobile Workstations with Core Duo Coming
Staska writes "All the reports last week about leaked Dell pricelist missed one important part. All of them focused on the consumer Inspiron line. But Dell is also preparing the release of Precision mobile workstations with Intel's Core Duo chips. Here are some possible configurations and prices for Precision workstation M65 line. "
Or at least I haven't been able to find a Dell machine with core duo as the processor(s). Aren't they Intel's preferred customer?
A mobile workstation with Core Duo? Sounds like that's already been announced and available for order! It's called the MacBook Pro. :)
New Dell Precision xDuo's have to be sent back for repairs twice as fast!
(We've had to stop buying dells, since Dell has their laptops about 2 weeks out of every months... jees!)
The HP duo Core's pretty nice. I'm leaning toward a new macbook (not pro, when they come out.) But have a sweet spot for the g4's.

Maybe I'm not a representative sample, but when then the first sentence of an article is whiffy enough for a political speech, I read no further.

We've had to stop buying dells, since Dell has their laptops about 2 weeks out of every months [...] I'm leaning toward a new macbook
Several recent Apple laptops have had reliability problems too. 73% failure in some cases!
So, yeah, don't assume Apple laptops are reliable just beause they come from Apple.

Hey buddy, add an "s" to something to make it plural, not an "'s".
The PC World and Consumer Reports reader surveys I've seen all show that Apple has the best customer support and the best reliability. For me, Apple has been more than lenient, a hard drive damaged due to a drop was replaced without question.
Do tell....

For the AMD dual cores to come out. It seems to me that AMD has better interconnects and a better dual-core design in general. I don't need a new laptop right this moment, so it seems prudent to just wait and see which one really is better. When are they supposed to be released, June or something?
My blog. Good stuff (when I remember to update it). Read it.
Seriously, I think the widescreen display is one of the most oversold technologies of the past few years. Especially on laptops. Do people really watch that many movies on thier PC's?
And if I had a dollar for every time I saw a widescreen TV in a bar distorting regular-aspect broadcasts, I could drink free for a month.
Will you be able to find a good system that contains that CPU?
Whether or not the Turion 64 is better or worse than the Pentium M, the fact is that every Turion 64 system I've seen has been either from a small-time OEM vendor or has been a relatively low end system (e.g. 14" display, crappy peripherals, looks flimsy).
Sadly, AMD is still way behind in the OEM market. If you build your own systems, AMD is the clear choice, and all of my desktop machines are AMD-based. For prebuilt systems from a reputable manufacturer, Intel-based systems win in the "total system solution" arena. This is why my laptop (Inspiron 8200) is Intel-based, its replacement will almost surely be Intel-based (Probably an XPS M170 or Inspiron 9400), and I went with a PowerEdge when speccing a prebuilt fileserver for my dad.
