AIAS Winners Announced

Next Generation has the results from the Interactive Achievement Awards, one of the most respected accolades a game can receive. God of War came away very, very well from the event. If you're interested, you should know that starting in 2007 the AIAS may be televised in a collaboration with Dick Clark Productions. Some of the given awards: "Game of the Year: God of War, PC Game of the Year: Battlefield 2, Console Game of the Year: God of War, Outstanding Innovation in Gaming: Guitar Hero, Outstanding Achievement: Animation: God of War, Outstanding Achievement: Art Direction: Shadow of the Colossus, Outstanding Achievement: Soundtrack: Guitar Hero" Just a little more respectable than a SpikeTV award.

Is it really that good? I mean, I've seen some movies and shots and what not, but all it looks like it running around trying to wack over sized monsters in glowie spots...

It's Prince Of Persia with added breasts and all the style surgically removed along with the decent platforming controls in order to make way for more fighting.

Whether or not that's a bad thing is up to you, but I didn't like it very much.

But it does it with style :) It's actually a very fun game, and when you play it everything feels put together well. Not a lot of loose ends.

God of War really had two things right: Showmanship and pacing. It really never feels like there is any filler in the game. You go from walking narrow planks hundreds of feet in the air above broken rocks, to skewering giant hydras on the shattered remains of your ship, to watching helplessly as a thousand-foot Ares smashes Athens. There is nothing in the game that isn't burning, blowing up, sinking, crumbling, or otherwise doing something interesting.

Even your character is conflicted. You're a bad guy, kept alive by the gods for their own purposes. None of the humans you rescue trust you, but if you can save Athens the gods will allow you to die.

The Big Glowy Button still manages to feel like you're doing an action, yet works into the game these amazing things you can do. It is simple, and it isn't much of a "game" mechanic, but it is a hell of a cinematic mechanic.

Try it and see. It really was a great game.

Umm.... That was shadow of the Colossus. http://www.us.playstation.com/Content/OGS/SCUS-974 72/Site/

This is god of war: http://us.playstation.com/Content/OGS/SCUS-97399/S ite/main.asp

I've played through both, and enjoyed them both. God of war has a better camera. Both had some great boss battles, tight controls, and a lot of fun.

Yes. If I still got mod points I'd mod up the other people on this thread, but since I don't (??), I'll just second all their opinions. God of War is a fantastic game. I rented it and beat it.. now I'm waiting for it to come down from $50 so I can justify buying it.

Just a little more respectable than a SpikeTV award.

I'll admit SpikeTV's little game award show was just as cheesy as the vast majority (ok 99%) of SciFi's low-budget B-movies, but come on, they had Samuel L. Jackson. That alone has got to score some points with the gaming crowd. I mean really, would you rather have an award handed to you by Jackson or Clark? I just hope that Seacrest (out!) doesn't somehow sneek into the Dick Clark production set.

      Samuel L. Jackson
Most real nerds lost respect for him after he was in those last three attrocious "Star Whores" movies that George Lucas put out to ring every last dime out of the StarWars universe. As for everybody else in America they lost respect after his masterpiece, Snakes in a plane.

Of the many FPSs I've played (some futuristic, some realistic), BF2 is of the best ever. You really do feel like you're on a battlefield (except the dying part). I wonder if the Army uses it for training (a la America's Army).

    From TFA:
For those who are wondering about Resident Evil 4, we reiterate that Capcom did not enter the game, so it wasn't eligible.
This isn't exactly true. The AIAS requires that publishers pay a membership fee in order for their games to be considered for these awards. Several publishers, including Capcom and Majesco, have (for whatever reason) refused to pay; as a result, their games are ineligible.

I wish the game press would be clearer about this when discussing the AIAS.
