Is it really that good? I mean, I've seen some movies and shots and what not, but all it looks like it running around trying to wack over sized monsters in glowie spots...
I'd love to see the PS3 and the revolution come to market with full force, no shortages. Don't take prepaid orders, just send every retailer a couple hundred (or thousand) units, and enjoy the news coverage of the people in line on midnight opening day, who are not just waiting to see if they get one, but are going to get one.
True- but remember they are eating an extra $150 or so for each console, just like they did with the xbox, to make up the difference in games. Despite the fact that the xbox division lost 1.2 billion last year, 391 million this year, and expects to continue losing money in the future.
*lightweight (2.6 lbs)
*instant on *16 hour battery life
Which makes it perfect for strolling around demo floors, walking and typing, etc.
Yes, I could do all this with a laptop, and have other features, but I paid $80 on ebay for it last year, with the extended battery, a 300mb micro drive, 2 regular batteries, the original box, paperwork, software all included. I would never get the instant on or 16 hour battery life I get with this little device. It only has an 8" screen and a resolution of 640x480, but works perfectly for what I need it for.
"When I boot it, it sets the time to a random time in the past."
Replace your cmos battery. (watch-like battery on your mobo)
set the time.
If you have it set to sync your time with the central server at boot, make sure your internet connection is up and running, and your time zone is correct.
I have a day one PS2. It has never given me any problems playing any type of media. As for market not allowing a 2 generation dominance, can you name an instance where there were two MAJOR companies, with cash resources from other divisions, were involved?
I own all 3 major consoles now, and I'll eventually buy all three again.
I won't buy a release 360 because they dropped HD-DVD support. I have an HDTV, I want my next-gen games in HD. When they upgrade it, I'll buy it. I'll probably buy a release PS3, and maybe revolution, if they have compelling release day titles.
Yes- the AI is improved, especially on the elite setting. Bots use vehicles (tanks, fighters, mounted guns, etc) with intelligence and purpose.
Snipe from one location for more than 2 shots, they will take cover if available, and rain down returning sniper fire.
Jedi/Hero characters attack with reckless abandon on non-heroes-as they should, but are not the invincible characters of the last game, when you get to control one, you can be killed. You can also rain a tremendous amount of damage on the enemy, fly over large quantities of the map with a force jump, and use your force powers to have your way with larger attacking forces.
I really enjoy the addition of stamina guages, allowing for sprinting, hyperdrive on ships, etc.
Seconded. I always recommend slack for friends/family curious about actually learning and using linux, it is the perfect tool for teaching the way things should be done, and has all the flexibility to add the tweaks and gui goodness you want later on.
Smooth, hassle free, and perfectly capable desktop or server distro.
Quoted from the apple insider article in parent...
"Apple retail stores saw 14.8 million visitors during the quarter, which breaks down to 9800 thousand visitors per store, per week."
9,800,000 per store per week? Isn't that slightly more than 14.8 million users total?
people like smaller, lighter, most convenient forms of computing, and especially when the company pays for it?
But it won't play duke nukem forever....
from TFA:
"One in three (34 percent) of U.S. users and more than one in four of those in Germany (29 percent) and Japan (28 percent) admitted they clicked on suspicious links or opened iffy e-mail because the computer equipment wasn't theirs."
Now I have to figure out which 4 out of the 12 guys on my mobile force need their laptop replaced with an etch-a-sketch. Time to send out some ebay spoof emails and see who responds...
I have nextel phone srvice, and use the blackberry 7520 for my phone/2 way/pda needs.
pros:
*email access, phone access, and pda functions in one-you aren't carrying 2-3 devices for it
*long battery life (I charge mine up every other night, and never have issues)
*great typing interface- I hate stylus input on most pdas, thumb typing is quick and easy to pick up
*Bluetooth- so I can use my wireless headset when on the road
*not much bigger than a phone, and great speakerphone
*good holster that locks when you put in on your belt, so no ghost calls
*syncs easily with most software, tons of 3rd party apps out there
cons:
*not as comfortable up to your ear as a phone (I usually use either speakerphone or bluetooth headset to combat this)
*most 3rd party software you have to buy (there are some good shareware/freeware programs out there)
Great device for me, a full time outside sales rep and part time student- I can keep all my email, phone book, notes, etc. on one device, and can send them to anyone with email or a phone.
The biggest difference between the PS2 and xbox release wasn't really the time period- it was the mass of good games out for the ps2, with no real list of winners with the release of xbox. If MS has the same list of 5 crappy games, not 50+ on the shelves when xbox next comes out, look for people to sit on it until PS3 comes out.
Damn the registration process!
I didn't register/read the article so,
I'll assume it says I won't get a million dollars from the government when I retire.
Does it say if I'll get $100? Maybe even $200?
That's better than my vhances at getting a job that'll keep me for 30 years and pay for my retirement.
The first thing I thought when I saw this headline on my google home page...Why would penny arcade do such a thing?
If they can release 1/4 of the games on that list with the system in September, they win.
If they just release metal gear 4 with the system, they win. I'll buy one.
Umm.... That was shadow of the Colossus. http://www.us.playstation.com/Content/OGS/SCUS-97
This is god of war: http://us.playstation.com/Content/OGS/SCUS-97399/
I've played through both, and enjoyed them both. God of war has a better camera. Both had some great boss battles, tight controls, and a lot of fun.

I have a workpad z50 http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/documen t.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=BMOE-46XPTL
That I use while travelling, to work on word documents. I type a lot of articles for various publications, and for work, and find this item has great uses:
*lightweight (2.6 lbs)
*instant on
*16 hour battery life
Which makes it perfect for strolling around demo floors, walking and typing, etc.

Now you see the violence inehrent in the system!
Help! Help! I'm being repressed!

according to http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/28/news_61282 95.html, it should debut in the US at $399, and cost around $494.

Does this mean GNU/HURD will be available before my powerbook G5? It's coming out next tuesday, you just wait!
