Output Mouse

An anonymous reader writes "Combining unusual items together can sometimes produce interesting results. Over at MetkuMods one can find a computer mouse embedded with a cell phone display to show all sorts of information. For some people one TFT on the desktop just isn't enough."

How are you going to watch the screen when your hand is lying on it? But for the rest, it's nicely done.

Obviously, the mouse isn't for actual use.

I think these mashups have just gone too far, but I like the idea of LCDs in keyboards and am really looking forward to the Optimus when it arrives.

The first page of the article made me think it was just a bad photoshop job, but he did end up with a nice mouse.
It ends up with a good color scheme at the end and would consider getting a normal one (sans screen) given half a chance.

Like so many mods: It's as awesome as it is useless!

The mouse, I mean. Not a transparent hand. I can think of some ways that'd be useful. Especially if it was really transparent. But even if it just showed all the bones and muscles and blood vessels, you could still gross people out.

Actually, why not add a thermometer (thermal sensor) to the palm rest of the mouse. Maybe have it sense when a hand is on it and display the pointer only then, hiding the pointer otherwise?

We all (gasp!) have to step away from the computer now and then. If something demanded your attention, like a new email or IM, this mouse could display the specifics for you while using negligible power. This caller-id-like function could allow you to glance deskward and see the culprit's IM avatar or email address without even breaking the screensaver. It's a phone screen, why not use it like one?

Y'know, when I hear the term "Output Mouse", I'm expecting the opposite of an input mouse; that is, the computer issues commands to move the mouse and it does so, taking your hand with it. And output clicks are handled by poking you in the fingers or thumb. Scroll wheel still needs work.

This just sounds like an LCD display duct-taped onto a mouse by comparison.
