Duke Nukem Forever Teaser Released
smithtuna33 writes "As of today there is a teaser up for Duke Nukem Forever at 3dRealms. It's up on Youtube as well, since the site is already slow. Not much actual game-play, but still ... might this game actually see the light of day after so much talk?" 1up, GameTrailers, and Voodoo Extreme have it too.
...Four horse-like aircraft seen flying across night sky.
If they actually release the game how can I continue to classify certain projects at work as 'Duke Nukem Forever' priority!!

Is that "soon" geologically, or "soon" cosmologically?

Seeing the words 'Duke Nukem Forever' and 'released' in the same sentence almost made me choke on my toast. Next time, try to break the news lightly or you may end up with a slightly reduced readership.
Extremely low temperatures have been reported in hell today. If the drop continues hell is actually in danger of freezing over...
My money is on glaciologically, so I guess I'm an optimist.
Live today, because you never know what tomorrow brings
It is "soon" DukeNukemically. Cosmologists started using it because they found "100 trillion years after the heatdeath of the universe" too long.

That's ok, it hasn't gone gold yet. And as Bogart would say, "We'll always have the Phantom."

There are 01 kinds of cars in the world. The General Lee, and everything else.
...and they spent all that time since 2001 just working on this teaser. Now they are gonna start working on the actual GAME.

Looks like Rocky, Rambo and Duke have a lot in common these days: Comeback kings of the steroids circuit!
I had so many hopes that we'd have solved so many of the world's problems by the time DNF was released! I was expecting to bring the game with me to my summer timeshare on Mars!
So many dreams shattered. Oh wait, it's just a trailer, not the real thing. Dream on, then!
I will refuse any release unless its Duke Nukem Forever on a Phantom Console running on an Atom Chip. Otherwise, you can forgettaboutit.
wasn't this supposed to beat Daikatana to market?
If only there were some movie, in which many of the classic lines could be heard. That'd do it for me...
You know, I'm actually all out of jokes for this topic.
Does anybody still care about that game?
Yes, I've already started a book about it, called "From Vaporware to Vistaware"
...is that it's implemented in Perl 6!
Why, these certainly look like trustworthy links.
First Teaser was in 2001
Second Teaser in late 2007

It's my Sig and you can't have it. Mine! All Mine!
According to an article on ars technica over 18 months ago, a member of their game group managed to cobble together most of the game into playable fashion, and wrote a review of the game.
Nuke Dukem Whatever...
If you mod me down, I *will* introduce you to my sister!
No, no, they're not dead. They're just resting. Remarkable company, the 3D realms. Beautiful plumage!
The Duke is a lie...
Yeah, it's just ten years older than the last time you heard it.
...even their April Fool tricks are 8.5 months late!

It's still "Duke Nukem Forever" - it's just the meaning of forever has now changed to describe how long the development took...

I agree. If this release ever really happens (still not a believer), I would consider investing in the hardware to play it. I just hope it doesn't conform to the modern serious FPS gaming trends, and that it maintains its sense of humour without trying too hard to be realistic. Some great college memories of playing DN3D with the dorm with a few neighbors and roommates all with the doors open - no microphone or chat technology is ever going to top the screams coming from the room next door when you teleported a pipe-bomb up their ass and then threw in a canned f2 duke quote just to rub it in.
You know what, I'll believe that this game is actually shipping about the time that Duke Nukem Forever is rel....
Oops.
Not A Sig
It may not be a lie, however we need to be careful if this game is released.
For if it is, Hell will freeze over and usher in the end of the world.
Perhaps this is part of the Mayan prophecy?

If so, we already know that the release date is 2012!!

Seriously. I heard it was being written in Perl 6, and that's still in Beta.
Aww c'mon, cut them some slack guys. It's not easy porting from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 in mid-development. On the bright side, when it's finally released, DNF will support the new VGA graphics standard with 640x480 resolution and up to 256 colors.
If there's ever a Duke Nukem Professional League, it will be the only sport where steroids legal...erm, the only sport except for Major League Baseball, that is.
if perl 6 actually got released today i'm pretty sure the world would just segfault
From the Duke Nukem Forever FAQ: 1.12 - Why is DNF taking so long? While this question constantly comes up from concerned fans, the fact is that the game is not taking as long as it may seem. As stated by several 3D Realms employees numerous times, quality games simply take time. What has been taking the most time is all of the optimizations and additions 3D Realms has been making. In the words of George Broussard, "The fact is that we're not massively delayed. Going to Unreal did set us back, but mainly because we refused to be a TC and not advance tech. We added LOD, skeletal animation, motion capture, and tons of other little enhancements to the Unreal engine to make it more interactive. That all takes time." Level designer Stephen Cole has also commented on this issue: "If DNF was a TC, it would be done by now. Levels, art, models, all are easy and quick to produce. If you want a rehashed TC, that is. If, however, you want something you haven't seen before, it takes time. If you want something that won't be outdated when it comes out, it takes more time." And also some comments by Joe Siegler: "If we had wanted some quickie piece of crap, it would have been out ages ago. It takes time to innovate - it doesn't take any time to shovel any old crap out there. Since we are not a publically held company, we aren't beholden to the same things that some big companies hold their development teams to, hence we can afford to take the time to make a quality product. Besides, once it's released, no one will care how long it took, they'll care that they have a cool fun game."
