Duke Nukem Forever Teaser Released

smithtuna33 writes "As of today there is a teaser up for Duke Nukem Forever at 3dRealms. It's up on Youtube as well, since the site is already slow. Not much actual game-play, but still ... might this game actually see the light of day after so much talk?" 1up, GameTrailers, and Voodoo Extreme have it too.

It may not be a lie, however we need to be careful if this game is released.

For if it is, Hell will freeze over and usher in the end of the world.

Perhaps this is part of the Mayan prophecy?

If so, we already know that the release date is 2012!!

Only as a punchline. "We'll see that when Duke Nukem Forever is released" will now imply a concrete date. Which would be disastrous for the type of person who reads and posts snarky comments on video game news posted to Slashdot. :-/

The truth for me is that I have still not played a FPS that was more FUN than Duke3D... Sure I have played games with better graphics, better engines, better stories, better mechanics, better multiplayer. But I have yet to find a, FPS game that was so consistantly "fun". It was just the right blend of cartooney, hard boiled, tongue'in'cheek, and psudo-realisim. And I don't believe anyone else has got it quite right yet.

I will still buy it on release day. Even if I have top buy it in...

If it's anything like DN3D, it won't be about a particularly innovative engine

It'll be about details. Mostly humorous.

There will be strippers you can pay, and rob. There will be pool-tables with semi-realistic billiard ball physics. There will be sinks you can smash and urinals you can piss in (and you'll gain health for this for some reason).

You won't be stuck some place with a 2-inch curb you can't climb over to keep you in. Instead, the map boundaries will seem reasonable. Or at least, physical. You might still question why someone built a building across a four-lane street...

And there will be genre-jokes. Perhaps there will even be an arcade with a working version of Ms. Astro Chicken or something, to which Duke makes some comment about it taking so long to come out and not being worth the wait.

Don't forget steroids[r], holoduke[h], shrink ray, and laser trip mines. The beauty in the weapons/items in that game is that they had a small selection of very well implemented weapons/itmes that would work the way you expected them to work.

Did anyone else know the steroids would instantly grow you from a shrink... neither did most opponents on Heat.net the best is the second time they shrink you, you holoduke instead of steroids, and then get behind them and 'roid it up and shoot them dead. Beauty. It is just a far cry from the current state of FPSs which is: "Snipe, tank, or rocket"

I have yet to find something more satisfying than sending an elevator full of pipebombs at an unsuspecting player.
