Previously Uncontacted Amazon Tribe Photographed

ManicMechanic and other readers sent in news of a tribe of aboriginal people from the border of Peru and Brazil that has been photographed by helicopter for the first time. The images show huts in a village and people in red body paint shooting arrows at the helicopter. The outfit that released the photos, Survival International, works to end illegal logging in the rainforest in order to protect the uncontacted tribes living there. They estimate that 100 uncontacted groups exist worldwide, about half of them in the Amazon basin.

Smallpox, tornadoes, and starving to death are all natural and none of the are beautiful. Maybe a tornado but only when our technology makes us safe.

If starving to death isn't beautiful, explain Hollywood and the fashion industry.

I for one would have loved to have been able to hear and understand the conversation that took place among that tribe after the helicopter passed over.

Messing up my whole world view...

You are obviously being sarcastic. However, I am curious to know who actually holds this world view.

I am personally aquainted with many vegetarians, and none of them believe that primitive humans were peaceful vegetarians. The popular opinion is that hunter-gatherers tended to do more gathering than hunting just because the nuts and berries were more abundant, didn't run away, and didn't fight back. There was still hunting to do, however. I also don't think any educated person actually believes that territority conflicts never turned bloody, either.

While it is true that, historically, in many cultures across the planet, the lower class lived largely on grains, this is just because they usually couldn't afford meat, not because of some philosophical or evolutionary predisposition. And also this only applies to farming communities, not the (more primitive) hunter-gatherer communities.

I believe that some sects of Christianity believe that Adam and Eve were vegetarians until the fall, but had to hunt since then. I suppose the need to hunt would apply to these descendents of Adam and Eve as well.

So, are you simply misunderstanding the above beliefs, or do you actually know educated people who believe that "primitive man" lived a completely weapon-free vegetarian lifestyle?
