But Apple wouldn't be Apple if it didn't move faster than any other computer company to kill technologies that may be past their prime. And history usually validates its decisions.       This seems like a fairly blatant attempt to enforce separation between the macbook and the pro. ... they need a differentiating factor. Firewire seems to have been chosen.

      Fools! I'll simply purchase a Firewire-to-USB adapter!

    We old farts never forget the first time seeing a hardcore high-end card reader suck up a four-foot hopper full of cards in less than five seconds, with a noise like ten Shop-Vacs and one Cessna.
