Wikipedia has an entry even for "Nucular". Right now it says that "some recognize it because of its increased usage", give it a little and it will say it is a fine spelling. The fact is that the greek "omicron upsilon" is translated as either "ou" or "u", so while Uroboros is fine, "Oroborus" is an obvious misspelling that probably originated from the fact that the "us" is a common latin suffix, while this particular word seems to have been originated directly from Greek and not gone through the not uncommon Greek->Latin->English route. In any case we should not be promoting misspellings and getting them to be accepted in the end.
Now that said, most /. geeks do not care about linguistic analysis. So it is enough to say that "Ouroboros" is the official spelling of the Red Dwarf episode and that's it. Any other spelling is obviously rubbish.
