Slashdot Launches User Achievements
In a concerted effort to compete with more popular MMOs like World of Warcraft, we've decided to add an Achievement system to Slashdot. We've retroactively granted around 900,000 achievements to our logged in users. You can view them from your user page, or you can see my list if you're curious what a REAL achiever looks like. Many achievements have been sprinkled throughout the system and are awaiting discovery by dedicated Slashdot users, but a starter list of achievements is in the FAQ. I'll toss you one freebie: you can register your wow main for points if you're that kind of person.

Because I always thought those were the best way to compete on /. Sure, the Thunderdomes were entertaining--but the second place trophy in those REALLY sucked. And the pissing contests...well, those just smelled bad and created a mess.

I do not like this feature or the fact that I can not turn it off. Especially the 'read slashdot for [x] consecutive days' part. This is an encroachment of my privacy, where is it going to stop? Are you going to list the dates and times I have read slashdot, and what stories? There goes my job. Kind of surprising and shocking, that slashdot would be the one to sell my privacy down the river like this... And not even to the lowest bidder.. JUST DID IT, FOR NO REASON AT ALL.
I thought we were capped at Level 50.

Exactly. For example, those less-than-six digiters now get in achievements to rub it in even more, as if the number accompanying their every post wasn't enough. :(

There is an achievement named : The April Fool -- posted in the April fools story, so if I want to have it I have to post in a April Fool's story, which I doubt this is one. But if I posted here, then it means that there is no real achievement system, so I can't get the achievement.
Can someone tell me how to get that achievement?
So are we getting a new mod option to go with this? Something like "Achievement Whore"?

For a number of years I've wanted a slashdot greasemonkey extension called something like "slashback" which would restrict all comments to people with UID lower than your own, thus returning slashdot to the same user community that got you to sign up in the first place.

If I had any character at all, I would spend less time on Slashdot. That would be an "achievement" to eclipse all the others. But, alas, I am enlisted in the service of Cmdr Taco and the other Slashdot overlords, and unable to break those ties.

I'm guessing posting here will get me the April Fools achievement!
It would be impossible, there are separate achievements for 1-digit UID, 2-digit UID, 3-digit UID, 4-digit UID, and 5-digit UID, since you (and I) are both 6-digit UID's we won't get a chance of those achievements, and even those who do qualify for one of those can't get them all, therefore it's impossible to get all the achievements.
All the more reason to consider it an achievement!
