Sega To Bring Dreamcast Titles to PSN, Xbox Live

Sega announced yesterday that it plans to bring back a number of popular Dreamcast games, updating them and releasing them for download on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will come first, with further announcements expected after E3. "Both of the games will be based on the Dreamcast originals, but will be updated with high-definition graphics, surround sound, online leaderboards, and Achievement and Trophy support." Kotaku has a list of other titles they hope to see — what game(s) would you like Sega to bring back?

May I be the first to say the Dreamcast was the console with the BEST ratio of AWESOME games to crappy ones. Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, Shenmue, F355 Challenge, Powerstone, to name a few.

It's a great day to be a PSN or XBL subscriber!! The value of a subscription just went up!!!

I absolutely agree. I think bringing Dreamcast titles to XBLA/PSN is a fantastic idea. I would love to see the Power Stone series with online support. I would happily pay again for titles like Jet Grind Radio, Shenmue, et cetera.

Nintendo 64's awesome-to-crap ratio was better. Mario, Banjo-Kazooie (twice), Zelda (twice), Goldeneye, Star Wars Racer, Fzero, Super Smash Bros, and on and on and on.

Star Wars Episode I Racer? Are you serious? The game prominently featured flying vehicles, that, by some wild, drug-induced stretch of the imagination, slide when they encounter an ice patch! Just how does a vehicle powered by thrust, rather than friction, lose control on ice? The whole thing seems an incredible example of a generic game engine given custom graphics to match a franchise, and then pushed out the door.

Not really. All those consoles you cited generally had very good support from third party developers, and so had a huge amount of very good games. The Wii however is attracting all the shovelware (with a few gems from time to time, mostly from Nintendo) while the best AAA games are only available on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

I've been waiting for someone to port the classic Powerstone to XBLA for ages. Ideally it would be Powerstone 2 and they'd put in online support for the 4 player mode.

Reading TFA just before hitting post, I notice it's already on that list.

Hopefully they'll rerelease Shenmue. Then, hopefully it will sell really really well. Then, hopefully Sega will see that there's still life in the property and complete Shenmue 3. Then, hopefully they'll get Yu Suzuki to come back to work on it.

And while I'm hoping, I'd like a pony.

Unless I can get a disc forget it. I really like my PS3, but I am not dumb enough to buy downloaded games that will disappear when PSN stops supporting them or when after that I have to replace the ps3. I still play 20 year old computer games and unless I can play these games in another 20 years I will not buy them.

Though I sympathize, for me that'd depend on the price. That said, I do wish both Sony and Nintendo would take a page from Apple's book and make it so that if you pay for something like that their other devices you own now and in the future would also be able to download and access that content. This nonsense of locking the content to the device is unacceptable.

Yeah, they are basic shapes, but they don't have a logical sequence to a non-Playstation player. On an X-box or Dreamcast controller if I see something say "A" or "B" I don't have to look at the button to know which one to push. When I look at the screen and it says press SQUARE or CIRCLE, I have to look at the controller to know which one to press. I had this exact problem while playing my nephew's PS3 earlier today. Nothing like having to look down at a controller to know which button to press in the middle of a firefight.
