Google's Slideshow of Interesting Things

Kilrah_il writes "Google's Creative Labs came out with a slideshow of interesting things on the web. In the slideshow you will find 'a lot of interesting HTML5 apps, iPhone apps, visualization tools, 3D projections, art projects, creative YouTube videos, crowdsourcing services and many other interesting things.' It's basically a collection of fascinating little projects people have made and then distributed to the internet at large. Guaranteed to ruin your productivity for today. You can view it with Google Docs."

    Whats wrong with a list?

      What's wrong with a CLI? Why have a GUI? I think the presentation is more engaging and accessible than if it were just a simple list.

      With a list you can immediately pick out the things that seem interesting. I don't want to have to click to 120 pages to find 5 that interest me.

      That's good for you, but most people prefer a visual representation of the objects. A list of ~120 interesting projects/sites is daunting and boring. Most people don't have the patience to read the description of each subject. In a presentation, OTOH, things are shown to you and are thus easier (i.e. more interesting) to browse through.
      Thinks Cover View vs. a list of all the albums you have.

      All I can say is "Death by PowerPoint". That and "You can do good quality presentations in HTML or PDF, if you wanted - less is often more".

    No, I can't view it with Google Docs. Apparently it requires some plugin or a cutting edge browser (but not too far off the beaten path). What the hell is wrong with people? This is content which would work perfectly fine with completely static web pages. Massive FAIL, Google.

      It worked fine for me right after Slashdot posted it.

      Now when I try, Firefox wants me to download some sort of zero-byte file named "view" instead of show me a web page.

      Which is cool: I didn't think it'd be possible to slashdot Google, but it seems to have happened.

      Good job, folks! Keep up the good work.

    Take a deep sip of this feeling. The knowledge that we, slashdot, slashdotted Google. We will one day fondly look back at these heroic memories and tell this story proudly to our kids and grandkids.

    And even if they do not believe us, when they say "grandpa, stop beeing silly", we will know it was true.

    Or to quote someone a little more famous than me:
    Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
    But he'll remember with advantages
    What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
    Familiar in his mouth as household words,
    CmdrTaco, Anonymous Coward,
    Scuttlemonkey and Jeff Bates,
    Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
    This story shall the good man teach his son;
    And Slashdot's Crispian shall ne'er go by,
    From this day to the ending of the world,
    But we in it shall be remembered,
    We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
    For he to-day that clicks this link with me
    Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
    This day shall gentle his condition;
    And gentlemen in England now a-bed
    Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
    And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
    That clicked with us upon Slashdot's day.
